When Mitt Romney was emerging as one of the major contenders for the Republican nomination for president, I admit, I was a little excited. Could a Mormon really be President of the US? As some of you might remember though, he wasn't my first choice, but Fred Thompson (who was my first choice) never showed a lot of enthusiasm for his bid anyway. So with him out, I started looking at Romney. We know what happened there (and I still don't agree with his reasoning for dropping out of the race, but it was his choice to make, so...), he pulled out "for the good of the party" and that was the point where McCain became the presumptive nominee. Today I was listening to a local talk show hosted by Mark Belling. He was talking about McCain and his most likely choices for VP. He took several calls from listeners on the topic. Mitt Romney's name came up, but not as a choice they wanted McCain to make. One of the interesting parts was, Mark Belling didn't bring up Romney's name until after taking the calls. Each of the callers who said they would never vote for McCain if Romney was the VP identified themselves as evangelical Christians. They all said that they would accept a pro choice candidate over a Mormon. Think about that for a minute. An evangelical Christian Conservative believes in the sanctity of life. They believe that life begins at conception, and abortion is just plain murder. Many are "single issue" voters, with abortion as their "single issue"... but they would rather elect a candidate that wants to keep this form of "murder" legal than a Mormon? I can't help but wonder about the hate some Christians have in their hearts. Is there really room for all that hate and Christ in the same heart? I mean, I do understand why many don't consider us Christians. While we share a great many beliefs, there are a lot of differences too. But to consider being a Mormon worse than being a murderer?

You know, I just want somebody who is going to take the business of keeping America safe from our enemies. I'm pro-life, Christian and conservative, not very popular but at least I don't have any regrets. I wouldn't mind if Mitt was the V.P., he got business savvy unlike the ding dongs on the DNC ticket. I don't agree with anything they represent. I have to look at it this way, God will use whoever is in power for their time, then he'll blow the wheat from the chaff.
