Ok, so since young, the only mashed potatoes are those that we bought from KFC and about 17 years later, I have to admit that that is getting a bit old… So I was wondering if anyone can tell me their favourite receipes and maybe just tell me how to make them so I don’t have to queue in KFC anymore? Thanks!!!

I like to make mashed potatoes with garlic and peas. It is simple to do and it seems to be a nice combination of flavours. I also like to make "bangers and mash" and do the garlic and peas mashed potatoes with some spring onions sprinkled on top and then stuff cooked sausages in the mashed potato and then cover it with some gravy! This also is pretty quick and easy to do and tastes great! I haven't been able to have either of these for ages actually and am getting hungry thinking about both! lol.

Did 'bangers and mash' just last week... I know its a bit of a "cholesterol mouth organ" but I do like left over mash fried with onion... in a sandwich with a fried egg and a slice of fried bread (but dont tell my doctor!) I only have that once or twice a year.

I can't believe no one hasn't mentioned potato pancakes yet! Well, I will. You can make the mashed potatoes any way you wish (I prefer to keep the skin on while boiling them and just mash it in with the rest of the potato... more vitamins that way). Season them with whatever seasoning you like best. Once you've had your fill of mashed potatoes, you can make potato pancakes. My mother always did this when my sister and I were younger. Just take a scoop of mashed potatoes, flatten it out and fry it (olive oil is best) on both sides until golden brown. It's a great change from regular mashed potatoes and really tastes great!

Yep, it's the crispy part of potato pancakes that I love so much. And you don't want to deep fry them because that's not healthy for you. Even just a little spray oil in the pan will do. Leaving the skin on the potatoes will make them less creamy, yes. I prefer a few "lumps" in my mashed potatoes because, psychologically, I KNOW they are made from real potatoes, not that instant stuff. And, of course, there is the nutritional side of it. Most of the vitamins are right under the skin and when you peel that off, you're also peeling away most of the vitamins.

lol... true... you dont know what the other stuff are made off... lol... so... flat... like a pancake? and maybe if you add extra virgin olive oil will be healthier... lol... still love the smooth texture of the mashed potatoes... so i dont think i will enjoy "lumps" so much... lol...

ooo.... wow!!! sounds good!!! but having the skin on will not allow it to be so smooth right? wow.... i think it is like something we have here... mashed potatoes and they deep fry it.... my mom always order that when she sees it!!! but it is like a...hockey punk size... not really that flat.... but i think flat will be more interesting!!! have a bit of a crispy side of the potato!!! yum!!!! thanks for the great idea!!!!

Well, I noticed that you got plenty of help on how to make them. They will not taste like KFC. You probably will never want KFC anymore! Also, try whipping them with beaters, makes them smooth and creamy!

peel them, boil them till they're soft, mash them & add butter/milk/cheese/salt/pepper/fried onions/herbs/spices... whatever you like really. I had no idea KFC even did mash... is it 'real' or the instant stuff?

By the way KFC uses the powdered potatoes that come in packets and so do not boil and mash their own potatoes.....

Mixing cheese in your mash, putting it in a dish , grating more cheese on top and then putting it in the oven till its well browned and crispy is good too

Potato Pancakes - I love making Potato Pancakes from leftover mashed potatoes
Peel, cut into 8 pieces boil them for 15 min or till they break open when you pierce with a fork. Drain saving water in a cup, mash them & add Miracle Whip/milk/cheese/bacon bits/salt/pepper/fresh raw onions & whatever herbs or spices you prefer. Stir until well blended. Instead of Miracle Whip you might use butter. My family prefers Miracle Whip. You may replace milk, with the saved water from drain off. Thin to consistency you prefer. Personally I like them kinda thin. If you don't eat them all, store any leftovers in refrigerator. The next morning heat bacon dripping in frying pan, form left over mashed potatoes into a patty & fry in bacon grease, lightly browning on both sides. Easy & quick potato pancakes. Great for breakfast!!!

Well, I will admit that KFC is getting a little old and boring, and the prices they are now trying to charge is unreal as well. I still Love their mashed potatoes but I think they need to spice them up a little bit as well. What about adding some Cheddar and some other spices to them? Or quit cutting down on the amount they give you now as well? Personally it is 2009 and it would be nice if KFC could offer some better changes for sure.

hi raclie, my dear freind, i love mashed potatoes and i think there hardly a day passes when i dont eat it. its a regular dish on my table and on my plate. i make it sometimes with garlic boiled with the potatoes and then thoroughly mashed so that there is no lump found. the i also add salt, black pepper and cheese. i sometimes bake it in oven with some cheese grated on top and my hubby loves to have it when it becomes a little crisp.

ha ha ha ha ha... go to any supermarket and try to find the cooking sauce call brown sauce. Cold storage I know has it. Cook it with chicken stock instead of water as indicated on the instructions. Pour over the mash potatoes that you made AND Wah~Lah~~~ MASH potatoes with delicious brown sauce.

Comparing the maggi ones that 7-11 is selling, I prefer to eat the ones from Kentucky. My favorite ones are the ones my mum makes. I rarely make mash potatoes now a days. Too much effort. Most times it is wash, skinned, cut and cook. In either soups or stews. Even frying them is not very common in my home. Love to eat mash potatoes from Kenny Rogers as well. They got very good brown sauce that makes it all the more yummy!
