What time do you put your kids to bed? I gave my old kids and extra hour for the summer time but when it gets close to back to school its back to 8 o'clock. Is that unnormal? My niece called me the other night . I can not rememeber if she was back to school yet "they went back 3 weeks earlyer then mine". But it was around 11 o'clock at night. And as I thought to my self and sure enough as I thought it it came out of my mouth " What are you still doing up?!" Now I beleive if your out with your parents what the heck it normal doesnt happen. But nope she was just up and bored. Is it crasy to think a 10 year old should go to bed?

Wrong person to ask here as my kids are night owls. But yes I did try to have my 10 year old in bed by 10:00. Now my daugbter is 14 and she tends to be in bed by 10:30 - 11:00. We are night owls really bad though and hate going to bed. So not looking forward to back to school tomorrow.

My son is 9 and his bed time has always be at 9 pm as this gives him a full 8 hours of sleep during school time. During the summer he can go to bed whenever he wants to. I am self employed and during the summer months I just wait for him to wake up unless I have an appointment early morning.
I have noticed that this school year he is not so ready to go to bed at 9, and he falls asleep much later so I don't know how much longer I will be able to hold him to going to bed at 9.
I have never had a problem getting him up for school, as some parents do where the kid doesn't get enough sleep. He pops up like a weed as soon as I say good morning.

I try to get them in bed by 7:30 which leaves us time to read and talk and hopefully they are asleep by 8:00. I would think a 10 year old might be able to go to bed a little later, like 9:00 but 11:00 seems a little out of hand. I'm a night owl myself though, so I know how hard it can be for some.

And puting kids on bed not late helps them education becouse they sleep more and at next day they are not asleep in shool and they pay more atention.

Well we have a 9 month old and a 20 month old who go to bed around 8:00 pm to 9:00 PM all depends if they napped at all during the day. They normally get up around 8 to 9 too.
My 13 year old usually will go to bed when he is tired on his own and wakes on his own normally too. So he is normally in bed about 9:00 9:30 and up around 6:30 am for school.
My 16 year old daughter is more of a night owl and doesnt need much sleep or so she says .. lol But I still kick her upstairs aroun 11:00 and have to get her up at 6:45 for school.
Our 17 year old likes her sleep but I have been noticing I have to prod her up in the morning, so she is in bed by 11:30.
During the summer the times stay about the same except if they dont get up on their own I have them up no later then 9 in the morning, mostly cause the quiet time in the morning ROCKS!

Well mine have a bed time of 9pm. I think that leaves them with plenty of time for sleep. They have over 10 hours to sleep so that's more than enough time for them to recharge.
Their bed time doesn't change just because school is starting back. They are normally up by 7 everyday even on weekends. On Fridays they are allowed to stay up till 11pm and on Saturdays they can stay up till 10pm.
I set their bedtime for 9pm because that was my bedtime as a child till I turned 13. At 13 I was able to set my own bed time as long as I made sure to be up in time for school in the morning.
If down the line they show that they are having a hard time waking up or staying awake through out the day I may think about adjusting their bed time.

I have two kids who are 5 and 12. My 5 year old started kindergarten this year and on school nights she goes to bed at 8 pm. My 12 year old has to be in bed at 10 pm on school nights. If I have trouble getting him to get up in the morning his bed time will go to 9 pm.

My sister's children hit the sack at 8.30 every night.
Two of them are now teens and I think they still do this.
Its very good to have young people especially teens go to be regularily and early.
Its good training and its good for their health.
I've seen too many young people, my own friends, suffer because they were allowed their own hours when they were young.

Well I have a 2 year old and a almost 4 month old. Both boys and for my oldest I tried for the longest time to get him to go to bed about 8 but that seemed to never work so I allowed him to go to bed when he wants. Since I have done that I noticed that he goes to bed about 8:30to 9:00. That is if he does not get a np and if he has decided to take a nap he goes to sleep about 10:00-10:30 and is always up at 7:30-8:00 am. So I stay up later to get me time. And for my youngest for some reason he goes to sleep about 8:30 every morning and does not wake up till about 7:30 for a feeding....rather this is noraml or not I dont know. I mean at going on to 4 months of age I would think he would be up more often. So sometimes children know when they are tired and will go to bed.

My 2-year-old goes down at 7:15, and the 4 & 6-year olds go down at 8:00. In order to have everyone dressed, fed, beds made, backpack ready, etc in time for my oldest to be at school at 8:15, we need to be up between 6:45 and 7:15. Any later for bedtime and I'd have to wake them up for school. And I'm under the belief that if you have to wake a child (even a 10 year old), then that child's body still needs more sleep. So if the 10-year-old's school doesn't start until late (some around here start at 9:30), and she's able to get a full night's sleep in (11:30-8:30 would be a good 9 hours), then it might be acceptable; but even then I think it's a bad habit. I don't know of many jobs where you don't have to show up until after 9; and the longer a bad habit goes, the harder it will be to break.

I think I slacked off with my son on his bed time as well at least an hour or more past his bed time most nights... playing his Dora Games on Nick Jr still he was in bed before nine. The past week I have been trying to get him back into the routine of between 7:30 and 8:00pm bedtime. Children need their sleep and we parents need our sanity. I figure if he's in bed by 7:30 it gives him time to play with his hot wheels that he insists on bringing to bed with him and the book he has chosen as well. I think some parents are probably too lenient when it comes to children's bed times... but I know what my little guy is like when he is over tired in the morning and it is not pretty!
