Hey batmanna I fully disagree with your views. It is not at all wastage of money. You are talking about development by investing huge money for the betterment of country . Don't you think that holding olympics China has not developed. What do you mean by development only installation of factory and industry. My dear friends holding such type of internal events in a successful manner the reputation of the country is boosted, lots of foreign national assembled and they stayed 15 to 20 days in your country , they knew the culture, they also done exchange of culture. Due to olympic game businessman from whole world camped there and established their business protocol, by chinese govt earned lots of foreign currency . In my opinion it is not wastage of money rather it hike the status of the country in every sphere .

I can't agree with your opinion. The money spent is for Olympics is not a waste. Countries having financial ability should do that. It shows the progress of the total world. Thinking other way is a kind of retardation towards human progress.

No it is not a waste of money.
The Olympics is a showcase for China to truly venture to the international arena. So in this sense it is very essential for them to host a successful Olympics Games.
Also the money used is not only for extravagance. The opening ceremony only spent a small fraction of the total money used. Most of the budget was spent on improving the environment in Beijing. The transport system was also greatly improved, with the addition of a new train line. The budget was also spent on educating and teaching the Beijing people simple English so that they can converse with visitors. I think there are many more improvements to the city as well, but I can't name them out now. Familiarity blindness I guess. But in a nutshell Beijing and its people had actually benefited from the Olympics budget.
