If it is formal, dress accordingly. Also go over your presentation several times, watch the time (don't make the presentation too long), watch for flow, maybe even have a friend or two listen to it and give you feedback. Make sure that you have all the materials and that your slides or whatever you use for illustration are in order. Familiarize yourself with the venue beforehand. Make sure you know how to handle the computers/projectors in order to present your material.
Take three deep breaths before you enter the room or before it is your turn to present (just do it quietly and covertly). Once you stand in front of your audience paste a smile on your face and extend a nice greeting. While you do that glance around the room and look for a friendly face (friendly as in having a nice, attentive, and open smile) or two, best not right next to each other. Then begin your presentation looking at the friendly person/people, and everytime you feel unsure, look back at them. Their friendly smile will reassure you. Pace yourself and don't speak too fast. Treat it like you would have a dialog with somebody, don't just rattle down the points of your presentation. If you don't have a powerpoint presentation or any other material, have a cue card on hand. In case you get messed up, you can quickly refer to it. If you mess up, misspeak, anything goes wrong, apologize but keep it lightly maybe even insert a little joke about I don't know tongue tied, frog in throat, clumsy, whatever. They'll laugh, things pass, nobody will care.
Keep in mind, they all have been through it. And even if they are seasoned speakers/presenters, they still get nervous, they still mess up, and they are very understanding about it.
Good luck!
