Had a Dr. appointment, called to postpone only to find out your Dr. was scheduled for Clinic that day and wouldn't be in his office? This is the second time it's happened to me. I've had a hip replacement and have to go have X rays. The first time it happened the weather was BAD and the roads were icy. I refuse to drive on ice, so I called to reschedule. "Didn't you get our message? The Dr. won't be in today and your appointment is on_____. Today was supposed to be my last or next to last X ray. I got up sick, it's raining and I'm still paranoid about falling on a slick spot, so I called to reschedule. "Oh, Dr.___ isn't in today. Didn't you get our message? Let me see when I rescheduled you for. Oh I didn't reschedule you! Well OK. Can you come in on ______". What the heck is going on? They have my mailing address. I'll admit that the important mail goes astray more often than not, but they have my phone number and I have an answering machine. Does anyone here work in a Dr.s office and can explain how something like that can happen to the same person in less than 9 months? I know mistakes happen, especially in a busy office.

I haven't had a Doctor's Appointment cancelled on Me (Yet!) but I can imagine how frustrating it would have been for you had you taken the risk and gone in that day to find they weren't expecting to see you with the Doctor gone..Sounds like there has been a few slip ups in the Admin side of things when they thought they had left a Message for You,and you didn't get it..they DID verify that they have all your correct details on file after those foulups, didn't they?

I have only had that happen once after that i always call the day before and make sure the dr. is going to be there. I live 45 min. from my dr. office and i really get irritated if i have to drive all the way into town for nothing, especially now with gas prices so out of hand!

I've known both my main doctor and my eye doctor all of my life, and they would not do that to me. They makes appointments, and those appointments stick. Now, if a real family emergency comes up, they will see to it that they get the message to me, no matter who they have to call (home phone, office phone, cellphone, e-mail...) but some how they will make sure I get the message, if there is a reason for cancellation.
