Listeriosis???

Hi all
Im sure most of you have heard of this listeriosis, so What I am wondering is has it stopped you from eating any kinds of meats you usually consume? All of the info we have recieved seems to say that it is all meats that should be avoided. I don't see everyone stopping their intake of all meats because all people need protien. I just moved back in with my mother and when we first got here she wouldn't allow any meat other than canned fish in her house. Now we are finally eating proper meat we are just avoiding sandwich meats.
So what about in your household? are you avoiding all meat or just some or not worrying about it at all???

I haven't changed the way I am shopping and eating. Yes, at first I was a little concerned but I went through the food in my freezer and didn't end up having any of the foods with the dates and that number they were telling us about. I have since purchased some bacon that is a maple leaf product but it is more recent and I am not worried about it. I think they got all of the contaminated foods off of the shelves by now. I have a lot of confidence in our government laws and I think it is now safe again. If I am naive about this and end up getting it then so be it. Then it is god's plan for me. Not that I am not careful.

Thanx for your response

I am still buying meat for the household but have quit buying any meat at all linked to Maple Leaf . I threw out so much meat in my freezer that I wanted to cry because of the waste but didn't want to take the chance that there was something in any of it as some of it has been in the freezer for awhile .
It will be a long time before I will feel comfortable againe eating any Maple leaf products but it makes my grocery bill much higher as it seems that everything I was buying was a product made by Maple leaf and was much cheaper to buy then what I am buying now .
I will eventually go back and buy Maple leaf products but all the hype about it will have to die down before I will feel comfortable serving this to my husband and my children to eat as they eat a lot more meat in the household then I do as I am not a big meat eater to begin with .

Yea we got rid of most as well. But for a while people were saying that it was everything because of the other brands they were listing. I found a list of recalled meat that was made in the plant and it is not as much as people think. http://www.inspection.gc.ca/english/corpaffr/recarapp/2008/20080819e.shtml

I have never heard of this word before until now. I know they sure are having alot of problems with meat these days, especially with the ecoli. I do worry about it but we have to have meat in our family.

HI StrawberryKisses,
We are still purchasing meat but we always check the time and date it will expire...It alarms me a lot but as what you have mentioned, our body needs protein..But, I know we can also get this protein by eating different beans but meat is always part of our food!
