With Ike wreaking havoc throughout the gulf states, gas prices began to soar & availability has been scarce. I had to go to 3 different stations today to find regular gas. What area do you live in, what is the average price of gas, are you restricted to how much you can buy, & can you still find gas in your area???

I don't know if this link will help but if you put in your zip code it will give you the prices of all the gas stations in your area. http://autos.msn.com/everyday/gasstations.aspx?zip=&src=Netx

Thank you Howard. You come up with some of the most interesting information!!! Now I can check to see which station I want to go to therefore saving me gas by just going straight to the station that is closest & cheapest. You are a lifesaver!!!

Since it is US refineries in Texas being affected by the hurricane, I doubt that it's affecting the prices in the UK. You have a good son!!!

All I can say is thank goodness I don't actually own a car anymore! I am living in Egypt at the moment and gas here is quite cheap compared to Australia and comes in at around 40 US cents a litre! When I was last in Australia gas was around 1.10 US cents a litre but I think it has increased by around 50% since then. The problem even without owning a car though is that the gas increases pretty much affect the pricing of everything!

YES gas prices affect everything. My groceries have gone up 50% or better. That is another place where prices go up easier than it goes down. Frustrating isn't it???

Yeah I heard a lot of places went above $4.00 and some up to $5.00 I don’t know if it’s for everyone or close to where the hurricane stroke but it does suck. Its hard for people to pay for gas and well hopefully this is just for a short time and it will go back down again soon if not where all in trouble with the gas prices being so high.

I have noticed that they have NO problem raising the prices, yet they always seem to have a problem lowering them. A barrel of oil goes up $1.00, they raise prices by 6¢ a gallon. Barrel of oil goes down $5.00, gas goes down 1¢ a gallon. Maybe that's New Math but it just doesn't add up to me!!!

The gas prices went up .15 cents over night to 3.59 a gallon. We have plenty so far and no stations have their pumps covered. I know the other night a small town not far from here was price gouging (not sure if that is how you spell it) but they were up way over 4.00 a gallon and people were paying it so they could continue their trip from Houston area to get out of danger. Those places need to be reported.

We went up 70¢ a gallon in 8 hours time. I went to 3 stations before I found any regular gas. The stations that had none didn't have their pumps covered. You had to pull in just to see the Out of Order cover over the pump handle. One station had cut off 1/3 of their pumps but they did have regular gas.

I live outside of Atlanta GA. There were a few stations that had NO gas today. I went to the convience store last night around midnight and the gas prices were at 3.76. I left home for shopping this morning at 9 and regular gas was 4.11. They also had on the news where people were in line for gas and the prices were changing before they could even get to the pump. I also heard about some stations that were limiting the amount that you could buy in order to preserve the gas supply that was on hand and afford everybody the opportunity to get some.

I'm in northern Georgia & one station here went from $3.49 to $4.19 in less than 8 hours. I've heard of stations closing as owners are saying it's not worth the hassle. My guess is they are preserving their gas until prices jump up more & they can sell what they bought at cheaper prices for the new higher prices.

I live in California and gas is averaging something like $3.75 a gallon, but most places are cheaper. We are not having a gas shortage right now. I think it's terrible about the gouging that's going on in the southeast right now. That just isn't right at all.

YES, it is depressing when the prices here are higher than in California!!! I'm totally expecting to hear that the refineries can't open back up for atleast 3 months.

Almost $1.40 per litre up here. Not really hard to find it, only at the cheaper places is it hard to find.

Well, to be perfectly honest, I was going to the cheaper places. We went up 70¢ per gallon yesterday alone. I hope this trend does not continue. They have now managed to make $3.50/gallon look good!!!

I have not been out yet today and I just got gas on Wednesday so I have not tried to get gas. But last night on my way home from work, things appeared normal here in NY. It is amazing, once again we get gouged. ALways an excuse to send the prices soaring. Think, they are not producing gas and their profits will go up.

Hi LadyMarissa, I think its terrible what is happening there over there, I'm from the U.K and I know gas prices have soared sky high so we don't use the car and my husband gores every where on his racing bike. Tamara

Yes, tamara, I don't know how you do it!!! I see more people here riding bikes. I've not had to go that extreme & I dread the day I do. With all the rain you have there, I would think bikes would be inconvenient!!!

With the population of California, my guess is the price will skyrocket back up. I've heard of stations that just closed their doors but have not seen that one personally.
