If you could have any kind of job, what would you pick? I feel like the counselor at school, but I am curious. When I was a kid, I thought I wanted to be an interior designer, but now I think I want to be a court reporter, or work for the National Captioning Institute.

lol! i've always admired steve wynne the force behind the mirage, that's why i thought it may be a cool job to have... as far as the corporate attorney, i nixed that because i realized i wanted kids and every attorney that i know their job is their life... logging in entirely too many hours a week. i just knew that that wasn't feasible for me.

Corporate attorney is right up my alley! I don't know about being a casino manager, that sounds like more responsibility than I want to deal with, plus listening to that ringing (the bells and the change, etc) would give me such a bad migraine! :)

My sister in law is a paralegal and it is the same way with her, she is ALWAYS busy. I feel that way now at my job (NOT my dream job, mind you), we've been having 3-4 hours of overtime a day to keep up with all the calls we're getting and then on the weekends I clean houses or do more overtime here answering phones.

I actually searched for the topic and I saw this. working4theweekend, why would you like to work for National Captioning Institute? :P
To respond, I never really have a dream job but a dream business. But right now I'm in the captioning industry and I feel like i don't want to leave it. And I guess, like you, i would dream of working there also captioning over a thousand of movies and clips. :)

Wow, it's cool to see another person interested in captioning! I want to work for the National Captioning Institute (I feel like I'm answering an interview question, so I hope they hire me if they see this!) because I type fast (70-75 wpm) and when I watch T.V. I often see spelling errors, I don't know if it's because they are obvious or if I'm just more keen to noticing them, but I'd like to work for the NCI because I feel I could reduce the number of spelling errors and make captioning more efficient and accurate.
How do I get started in the captioning industry? Right now I'm enrolled in college P/T to become a paralegal but I think I'm actually more interested in doing medical transcription, or captioning. I type well and I enjoy typing, it's what I'm best at, so I might as well use my skills, right?

That would be cool - did you see that Jewel is now a judge on American Idol? I thought that was cool. She should make someone yodel, ha ha ha.

If money was no object, I would love to open a business that would help welfare parents learn to work from home. Training them to be medical coders, indexers, virtual assistants, transcriptionist, etc. My company would be so thorough and have the highest standings and reputation that they would be hired by any company without any experience.

I was thinking about something like this, helping homeless youth in Los Angeles to finish school and get good jobs. I think that there are a lot of online jobs that people could get if they have the right experience, so even if they have kids, they could still work.
