A second economic stimulus package?

United States

Does anyone here think that the government should send out another economic stimulus package and allow the Americans to have a chance to use it at Christmas time? Do you think that it would help our economy? I believe that instead of investing in all of these failing companies and sending money overseas all the time, they should invest in their own people and send us another check to help with Christmas gifts or heating costs. I believe that families are struggling right now and need another boost. I believe it would do more to stimulate the economy right now than the other one did. I think most people used it to help pay for bills instead of spending it in the retail market.

Unfortunately, I highly doubt that it will happen. They're more concerned with bailing out the mortgage companies and automakers right now.

I think that the bailout for the mortgage companies is ridiculous and I don't think that the people in the US should be bailing out the automakers. They are the ones who have raised the price of cars till people can't afford them and until something happens to the economy and people are not in fear of losing their jobs, no one will be buying new cars. What good does a bailout do?

I would think a second economic stimulus package would do. I would suggest that there are a condition that it be used to pay down the bills, loans, or credit cards first and also for those who are receiving alimony and children's allowances, it not be clawed back. It would not be right to spend it all on that large screen Tv. I do have another idea that we have here in Canada to reduce the high cost of fuel, for those who have money and specifically for upgrading the insulation of their homes, ordering new furnaces and air conditioners that are energy efficient. What our government does is to give a cash rebate =sometimes it is $500 sometimes $1000 sometimes it is a percent of the money spent. The homeowner keeps the receipt and often times he gets the money before the loan becomes due.

That is a good idea. However, even though the loans ned paid the families should be allowed to spend part of it for holiday shoppping if they need it for the kids to have Christmas. I like the idea of the government sending rebate money for doing repairs to help with costs of energy. It would be nice if they would give the money upfront and you had to show receipts that you purchased the items.

We have to send in the receipts to prove that we purchased the items. And they are very particular in coming to the house to see if something has been done. Now since my husband is disabled, I would suppose I could get a rebate to make our house more disabled friendly. We do have to fix up our bathroom a bit more. Thanks for the best response.

I think their should be another one. I know we used ours to pay bills, and I think most other people did, too. Another one would really help since Christmas is right around the corner.

I think so too. I wonder if the government is thinking this way. I know that there are a lot of families that could use it as they don't have the extra money for Christmas. I honestly think that families with children should get $1,000. I wonder who we could give the idea too that might actually consider this and if there is time to get it out for all of us?
