Yes, they are starting it again! Giving something so stupid, something so irresponsible, something pathetically addictive and totaly selfish a "medical" name.
I heard it on the 6:00 news today!
Yes, DWT - causes a huge number of accidents every year and recently was the cause of a huge metro link train accident in Los Angeles, that killed many people, just on their way home from work.
What is DWT? Driving while texting!!
I just don't get why people text while driving. They have to know their attention is off the road - are they just really that selfish or arrogant to think that they can safely do both? I have been nearly hit or backed into while someone was on a cell phone. It is against the law since May in California, but I see it all the time. Nothing has changed. Makes me glad I am not on the roads as much anymore - originally due to high gas costs, but now...just seems the safest place to not be! Next thing you know it really will be a medical issue and people will be able to get government "help" for it! Stranger things have happened!

Thankfully not only I did not catch that one I am positive I am immune :) Just as well I seem to catch any virus going around LOL
I think that cars should be like hospitals. THe cell phones shouldn't work for anyone sitting in the driver's seat.

Ya that might be a good one! Don't hold your breath waiting for it tho! THey have put in more voice activated options withint cell phones and cars, but still...ear phones/plugs have been around for years - why do people hold that phone up there for extended periods of time yaking, while they could just put on an ear plug, chat till the cows come home and have both hands on the wheels - granted their attention is divided but at least their hands are available! But no, no one ever did it the easy way!!! Did you hear about that turnip truck that just had a bunch of the product fall off?......

I'd say they are mostly selfish. The man driving that train obviously didn't value any of the lives he was responsible for.
I don't have DWT, I won't ever get DWT, I don't even answer my phone when I'm driving.

I don't use mine either. And what about the value of their own life!! I mean, this guy was texting knowing he had to watch lights! This was in TOWN - lights and traffic all over the place!!!

I don't do either, either. The texting, just to much atention is needed to be safe. Calls, sorry but no one is that important htat I put my life in jeopardy - not that I'm anything so great, but you get the point. Only time I will check a call if it comes in while driving, is at a stop light or sign, I'll see who it was, just in case it was one of my kids calling about one of their kids that I have...but if not, I just let it sit till I get home and then call.

hi coffeebreak I was knocked down by a woman who was too busy texting to watch where she was driving, I was not injured, only bruised but she was reprimanded by the police for driving and texting at the same time. she also had to pay a big fine too. serves her right.the ironic part is she also did not like me as she lived down stairs from me and disliked my son. I felt that she did it on purpose and I being 81 and crippled could not get
out of her way quite soon enough.

My gosh! I"d say "you're kidding!" but I know you aren't. I have been bumped into in stores by someone yakking on a cell and not watching where they were going and I have nearly been hit by someone backing out or pulling out ahead and if I hadn't been on my toes and alert, we'd a hit, but they were on their cell and not paying attention. Really makes me mad and yeah, I will say something to someone if at all possible, if they cause me problems cause they are yakking and not paying attention
