Posting a Discussion to More Than One Interest??

Is it acceptable to post a discussion (or at least a similar one) to more than one interest when it applies to both? It would seem like it would make it more likely to get responses. Everyone has different interests and if you posted the same basic discussion to more than one interest that it applies to, it would probably draw more traffic and interest. What are your thoughts? Is this acceptable?

When I see people do that it kind of seems like spam to me, but only because I've seen it more than once. But I guess it's okay because some people may not visit the other interest and they'll have a chance to respond. I think the person posting the discussions should make them similar but not exactly the same to avoid complaints.
