Do you need a video camera?

I have a very good digital camera which it can record the video. And it's very clear to play from TV. So it's not necessary for me to buy a video camera to record video only.

Well, again, that would really boil down to needs vs wants. Then the question of justifying to buy one where budget vs spurge. I for one fine a still camera good enough for the moment. But if there is a good offer around, the good-to-have video camera will be nice. As long as there is spare cash for it, why not? Otherwise, it is a luxury item I can do without for the moment.

I wouldn't say exactly that you have to be rich to buy things. It is a question of whether you can afford it or not. As long as we can afford it, that good-to-have is something one can indulge in every once in a while. But if you already have something that can do the same job, then that money can be used for soemthing better. Take for example, if I had known that the D90 is able to take video and have live view as well, I would have waited a year before getting the DSLR. But I am happy with the D80. And have not fully explore the features and functions yet. So, I am going to be contend with the D80 until such a time, I can justify getting one with video functions. Else, not, then considering a video cam would be the next option. I will never say know to gadgets. As long as I can justify getting them, then it is not a problem.

You are right. If you are rich, you can just buy whatever you like without hesitation

Good afternoon, youless. Reading this title of the topic, I was made to think that youless "was trying" to push sales of her video camera. lol. Yeah, my canon digital camera is also equipped with a video camera, but it is only one-minute video time. But anyway, it is ok for me.

My old digital camera can only record one minute video, too. Now it's different. My new digital camera works very well and 2GB memory card will have about half an hour of videos.

I suppose if I wanted to record a couple hours of film I may have a problem but for school concerts and fun stuff the kids do with it, my camera does real well for. I bought it as a gift for myself after I quit smoking. A kodak easyshare which I have to say is one of my more expensive things I own. So I am a bit proud of it. I don't see a need for a video camera anymore either.

When you buy a new digital camera, usually the digital company will give you a software to deal with the photos in a CD and it's free of charge.

I love the video function on my point and shoot digital camera! I take lots of videos using it. However, I also sell stock video clips. And they don't allow you to submit video clips that you took with a point and shoot camera. So I bought a separate digital camcorder just for shooting stock. But most of my own personal home movies were shot with my digital camera! And I think most people will feel the same. If you're not shooting video clips for profit, then you don't really need a camcorder.

I dare not to buy expensive product via the net. The most expensive thing I bought via the net perhaps is the bread maker

I have a digicam my friend which is just a small camera sized so for me that is enough, I am not big on taking photos, most images I keep in my head, but I certainly don't want one of those big things to carry around, I find them cumbersome and I am not very good with technological devices so the more buttons it has the more confused I get LOL! I just like things plain and simple and my digicam is just that, plain and simple like me!

My husband and I bought a digital camera - a sony cybershot. It works well just like yours. We needed it to record our kids happenings since they are growing so fast. It helps us preserve the memories.
