I have a male cat, 6 years of age who has a problem sitting still. I brush him at least every other day, but because of his size, he has a hard time cleaning some parts of his body. How do I give him a bath and a shampoo without getting upset with him and get him to sit still? How do I get the tangles out of his hair? He is a great cat, his name is Patton (yes, named after my favorite WWII General, the other male in the family is McArthur, go figure) and he has two large fangs. He has actually given me the idea of children's books and I am hoping they will be a hit.
Let me know, if you shampoo your cats, how do you get them to sit still or not rush out of the water without getting you soaked. Thanks for your help Mycat Mylotters.
Have a great weekend and looking forward to your responses.

Hi dave. I had a persian cat so I understand your problem. For the tangles (mostly under the arms)you must cut it. When I given a bath (twice a month)I always catched him by the neck skim near the head (like his mother does). It leave me only with one hand to give the bath but it isn't hard to do. If you catch him this way he will be quiet and after wet him apply the shampoo ( not wet nor use shampoo in his face never)and rinse. Is all. Not hard at all only you need to catch him in the right way. One more thing: dry him with a towel only. Always towel him. If you will use a dryer your cat will get sick.
Cheers and good luck.

Great advice. Unfortunately, Patton is a pretty large cat, so catching by the nape of the neck is sort of difficult. Thanks for letting me know about not using a blow dryer. Great advice and thanks again.
Have a great weekend.

I have not given any of them a bath.
However I have discovered some matted spots that if I can't get them cut out I'll have to shave that spots. I dunno what he's getting into as he's only 2 yrs old but he's a short hair w/ a pretty thick coat. I'm thinking I'll need to get a cat brush for him.
