Connie Constrictor! The other day I showed you Leila Cornsnake, well this beauty is a Boa Constrictor. She is about 2 and a half years old and is my hubbys. Well, Connie is very very soft, she loves my hubby to bits and when he gets her out she puts her head so close to his and will not move. She is very very strong and is kept in a large tank that is locked at all times, because my hubby really is the only one that can handle her. I will not handle her as she scares me a little bit with being so big and strong. We have had her for about a year or more now, she eats small rats, that are bought ready dead and frozen. As you can see from the photo I have put on my kids have no fear of her at all and they will sit and play with them! Even my two year old daughter has held this one! So what would you do if your other half came home one day with a Boa Constrictor without telling you, like mine did? Would you ever let your children hold one of these beauties like mine is doing in the attached photo? Would you ever hold one?

I would make sure the children understood about snakes and that when they are scared they can bite. I think that if the children are all for interacting with snakes then I would encourage them. I would be miffed at my partner if he bought one home with him but I know that won't happen as he hates snakes and spiders!! As for holding a snake - no thanks!!! I'll just watch it in its cage!! He did come home with a hamster for me, that was an apology present which I wasn't expecting as we hadn't even thought about getting a pet. I had to go out on my next day off to pick up a few hamster things that he didn't realise we would need!!!

Oh that was a nice thought, my hubby went out one day a few years ago and come back with a budgie. He said that my son had said he wanted it, well my son was about 3 at the time and not in any position to look after a pet, never mind a budgie. I was not impressed as I ended up with the care of it. My parents have it now and it swears like a trooper.

I grew to love the hamster and sadly had to have it put down last year as she was too old (we weren't sure exactly how old she was!!!) and she was in a lot of pain and very dehydrated!!! It was a sad time, but I want another one and now that the workmen have finished my house, that is my next goal!!! He did want chipmunks but couldn't get any so the hamster was second best!!! So glad he didn't get the chipmunks!!! Thanks for BR!!!

Wow she's beautiful!I love reptiles but they are expensive to get and keep, and apart from that i love mice and rats too much to be able to feed them to them!! hehe I know it's just the way of the world but i don't think i could bring myself to do it!! I don't think i'd mind to much if my partner brought one home though, as long as he was willing to do the feeding!! lol as i'm single though i can sleep safely knowing that there won't be any slithery surprises! I think it's good that you're kids are being brought up not to fear snakes, it's definitely an unusual pet to tell their friends at school about too!! xxx

They are expensive to get, but you know they are not that expensive to keep at all really. Much cheaper than a dog or a cat or any other little animal.

Hi gemini, That will scare me so much but if ever she will really not bite, I will just trust my husband but it will take time before I will try to touch the snake...LOL! Actually, I have tried before when I had a trip with my office mates, we were in one of the Zoo and the caretaker allow us to take picture with the snakes and I was able to do it but we were 4 together plus the caretaker so I was quite confident...LOL!

It took me ages to even touch it, and I have never held it but I think she is cool.

Hi Gemini, Have yet to get round to the other pic and discussion but peeked at the photo, only superheros hold snakes eh! LOL. Delightful, snakes not my cuppa tea as a pet as I like to snuggle and cuddle with furry fluff balls like my puppy and the cats but certainly a fine looking snake Connie is and a handsome boy there too. Huggles. Ellie :D

Yes I forgot he has his batman things on! He loves holding them, trouble is he cuddles them! He has a snake that matches the colour of his hair, I will have to show that one too!! She is a beautiful thing, if you saw her with my hubby you would see she adores him.

will check out the picture after i write this cause i got it in an email (they really need to fix it so we can chck photoes and links out in the emails before we post!) while im not bothered by snakes much.. the majority of my critters are small furry things.. thus, umm no. no constrictors if he wanted to keep a small snake that wasnt capable of swallowing my head.. i wouldnt have a problem with that

Yeah I think we should be able to see the photo in emails it is really annoying. My first thought when he brought it home was that it would think my daughter was a giant rat! It is locked away and keys right out of reach, although one day he did forget and needless to say he came home from work to find one of his snakes bidding for freedom in the dining room. I did not have a clue, my eldest said that my daughter had opened the door, but you know I have my doubts about that, luckily it was not the boa but a 5ft long cornsnake. I tell him though not to let it go around his neck because there is no way I would be strong enough to get it off because it is the strongest thing I have ever seen.

never. im sick of snakes. they are driving me out of florida. plus i saw on a talk show once, this woman had a pet like that. it got loose and she was pregnant. she woke up with the snake wrapped around her and no one could make it let loose. it was sqeezing the baby out of her. finally the fire dept. came and killed it.(sorry) just in time for her and the baby to survive. it was a show on survival. no one knows why it did it.

Oh yes caution has to be taken with a pet like that, I would never trust one completely.

Hey Gem...a constrictor crushes his prey with his body Yes? How do you know that the snake won't do that? Do they do it only when threatened? How do you know you are safe to have one as a pet? I'd love a pet snake but I have other critters and I'd be afraid he would get away. The only snakes we have around here are brown snakes and red bellied black snakes...brown snakes are lethal - black snakes almost so. We have pythons too which I'm told are common but I've never seen one.

There are snakes in my farm and I have seen only two of them. One moved very fast as it tried to get away from me. I probably surprised it and it was surprisingly fast! One of my workers has seen a cobra which does not easily run away. They could be dangerous.

wow. you have a nice pet. hmmhh.. let my child hold it? maybe not as of now because i dont own it. but if we are really fond of snakes and we take care of it. i guess i can let my child hold it if he likes it also. if my other half will be bringing that home, i will be really shock. but i will get used to it in time

She is nice, I was a bit shocked when my hubby brought it home, but I soon accepted it.
