Do you check whether there are similar topics before postings?

With so many users, so many new discussions appearing there is bound to be a clash, but sometimes it's the way you word discussions that will make discussions different or unusual, so I do try to check the topic I am going to do a discussion on first, and also consider that some discussions may be the same but have been asked a year ago and will get different responses a second time round with different people, there is a high turnover of people on this site. It's easy done to have many discussions about the same topic but they are all unique at least!

yes i agree with you..it is very hard to start a new topic nowadays..it seems i am drained already...i cannot even think of something new to come up today...ohohohoh...i really cannot think. but to answer your question..yes i try to check out first if someone started this similar topic before posting it..but really sometimes the titles are done differently from others and if you make your topic catchy and easy for people to relate just by looking at the title alone..and they may want to respond...but each and everyone of us have different set of friends..and friends follow you around especially if you start a new topic..so they are the ones responding it...no problem with same topics really as long as its not a complete copycat.

Unless you have the energy to look through all of mylot well its very difficult to see if there are any discussions like the one that you are going to post,im sure that there are many that get duplicated,and im sure that on the whole many of us never worry,we just get on and submit our point of view,mylot is such a big growing site ,its hard for this not to happen here.

i search by tags but that doesnt always catch it since some people dont tag or use other wording.. i used to go into the interest and search but since there can be 10 interest made for the same thing it was insane to think that would work.. i know that recently i had did a search found nothing then had it open to make my discussion but then i was away from the pc and doing other things that by the time i had made it i was like within a half an hour of some one elses (it was about something on tv so aparently we both had been watching) i felt awful and i know i checked so it must have been while i was away from my pc that it happened.. nothing i can do now but yeah i do a search then post if its already been posted i wont post.. but i think no matter what it will happen once in awhile.. too many people on here and too many thinking alike i guess lol

Hi friend,I never check whether there are similar topics,I post whatever I feel,sometimes I receive many responses and sometimes very few responses.Everyday thousands of topics cross every minute,so I am not interested to check.thanks for sharing.happy mylotting.

I don't check it. As I believe there are quite a lot of similar topics here. It's too difficult to think out a truly unique new discussion. As long as you don't copy others' topics exactly, it can be acceptable. I love China

Sometimes I do; it could be very embarrassing to post a topic that someone has just posted hours or minutes before. It's not copying; it's just that thoughts sometimes flow in parallel - there are 140,000+ members in myLot; the coincidence that others may have similar thoughts to yours is not impossible!

Hi ronaldinu, I have noticed there are similar topics when I start to respond and sometimes its a repeat of the same topic, have they run out of new topics. Tamara

I try to check and see if a topic that I am posting has not been done before, but it is very difficult to check because there are so many posted topics that it is hard to go through every single one. What I am finding lately is that people are posting the same topics on the same day and I don't believe that they don't see that the same exact topics have been posted. I have noticed this happening alot this particular week for instance. That is getting me angry. I believe these people may be copying and not caring. I know that yesterday for example there were 5 topics that I had answered that were duplicated almost exactly. I really think that mylot should do something about that. I know that it is difficult to find new topics when there are so many people on mylot. Just take a look at the population. But people should take better care to be more careful before posting.

I tried to check my post that if they are similar to the other posts or the other my lotters posts. I tried with my best to not post the similar one which is always in the discussion.

I usually look at new post and if anything catches my eyes, I'll respond to it. Never thought of having so many people posting the same thing, moreever, it is not really that easy to search for similar post, for me that it is

i do not check for similar topic. just post whatever is on your mind. that is the main objective of joining mylot. speak your mind and post honestly. dun post just to generate response. it doesnt mean that if your topic is similar to another, we would not response to it. there are close to 150k mylotters in this forum and they mauy not have seen the previous topic before and definitely would offer their views if the topic is of concern or interest to them.

Before starting a discussion, I first browse similar discussions by using myLot's search box, where I enter some relevant tags. It is after all a myLot recommendation not to start discussions on topics that have already been used.

On the few occasions that I have posted topics, no, I didn't always do a search...just on a few occasions. There are so many members here now that topics are bound to be similar. I don't think it matters if a topic is similar as long as it is not identical. Well, you are certainly doing a great job at picking topics for discussion. I would have to rack my brains for a topic to post and that is too much like work.

I know what you mean my friend it is always good to try and find topics that are unexplored by other mylotters,even though that is not always easy since there are a whole lot of people in the mylot community,so it is hard to not do a discussion that is similar to one someone else has started,I do not usually check to see if there is a similar discussion before I start one,I just give it my touch and use my unique thoughts to make it different.

no i dont check wheather the topic i want to start is already strated or not and i really fee that it is not even required. i always start a discussion which i get into mind and i never check it wheather it exists before or not. and morever i get less time to spend online and if i do all the research then i will lose more time and i cant write at mylot more and i cant do this as i need to finish up mylotting first and then do other work. and morever i am usually responding to the discussions more now and me starting the discussions are very rare.

Hi there, I normally search before posting a new discussion! But there are time that I will find a similar and there are time that I don't. I think we cannot avoid to have a similar discussion because we have many members here! Have a nice weekend.
