Will Sci Fi shows be reality in the future?

Hey guys. I've been watching a lot of Sci Fi lately, currently Star Trek Next Gen. It got me wondering. Androids? Turbolifts? Interstellar starships? Is this all as fictional as we believe? We're already working on robots with decent artificial intelligence so would a humanlike machine with circuits that work like a human circulatory system and a posotronic brain really be that far off? What about turbolifts? We already have something very similar, the elevator. The main differences are that turbolifts are voice activated while elevators are not, but it wouldn't be hard to put voice recognition into elevators. Turbo lifts are also faster, but I'm sure that's not too unrealistic either. As for starships, we already have manned and unmanned spacecraft of the most rudimentary types so is interstellar travel really that far away? Here's another one, holodecks/holosuites. Cross an imax movie with an interactive video game, give it voice recognition and programmability, with the ability to adapt to certain situations or modify the existing characters, and badda bing! An early holosuite/deck is born. Has anyone else ever considered these possibilities or am I just too into Sci Fi? What do you think of my observations? Are there any other aspects of Sci Fi shows you think we may soon, well within the next couple hundred years, come up with? I'm interested to hear everyone's take on this one.

Well I think A lot of what we see now -may not be too far off.
especially since nowadays the scifi shows put so much investigation into things they show before they make them. with all their scientists, specialist and dr.s etc. especially Star Trek TNG and the like- they even had people who made up the whole klingon language..lol.
If you think about it and go back to the original Star trek. the stuff they had then in the 60's/70's on that show. they just made that stuff up -but look at how much of that stuff has more or less come to pass..
the communicators.. look alot like our cell phones. the talking computers.
Phasers. ...while we might not have hand held lasers- laser technology has come a long way -even in medicine.
Tribbles- we had Furbys.. haha
I am still waiting for the transporter.. lol although I don't think I would trust that one bit.
I LOVE WATCHING SCI-FI. Just for that reason- to see what could be possible.

Lol the Klingon language wasn't complete, at least not freely available. I know there's the klingon dictionary and I might have to get ahold of it, but as far as what i've seen on the web, they are missing some words, like I forget butI think glory was missing and some other ones, words the Klingons said all the time. They're prolly in the book though, but the sites should keep up to date lol.

Yea, I am sure the dictionary is complete. lol
wouldn't be much of a dictionary otherwise than huh? lol
I actually named my puppy (she would be the dark one on the left in my avatar pic)
K'Ehleyr after Worf's mate.. I just loved her.. why they killed her after being on just twice.. she was awesome.
although I know she also played a vulcan character as well - K'Ehleyr was just too cool.

yea - I actually missed that episode- which is good- because I would have really cried for Worf. he doesn't seem to have good luck. and then when him and Ezri got to gether..I din't like it too much- because it wasn't too believable - you know he was concerned about hurting Jedzia because Klingons are so rough. but Ezri who's a little squirt -he had no concerns over.. I don't know...

Well, the good news is that there, in fact, is a Star Trek like device already being developed in the process and will be released in the next few years. I've mentioned this before in the past but it's called the Immersive Cocoon and will work very similar to holodecks in Star Trek. Just search a news site, say CNN, for it and you can read all about it. I want one so bad lol.
But yeah, some sci-fi staples would be great to have in real life. I'm sure some day some, if not many or all, will be technologically possible. I wouldn't be surprsied, at least.

I think there's a very great chance that sooner or later things we see in sci-fi shows will be a way of life. Will it be exactly? I don't know. But I do know that there are many things from sci-fi shows that are appearing in everday life.
Someone mentioned lasers. Today, while not everyone owns a laser or uses one for personal use, lasers are something we don't think much about. But think about how much of a sci-fi idea lasers would sound to someone fifty or so years ago?
I even recently read a news article from CNN.com that was very interesting and am looking forward for this to come to pass in the next few years. As we all know, one of the pieces of technology used in the famous franchise Star Trek, the holodeck, is being developed as we speak. I think a company in Japan is working on it. From what I understand, it's basically going to work very similar, if not exactly, like a holodeck. If I could post the link, I would. But you can probably search for "Immersive Cocoon" and find it on CNN. It sounds great and I definitely am going to want one when it gets released commercially in or around 2014.

Oooo, I'd want one too, but I imagine it'd be expensive. Man it'd be cool to be one of the people working on a project like that hehe. I never heard about that, but I figured it couldn't be far behind hehe. As for lasers, they are the origin of Star Trek phasers, so maybe we will have those too eventually lol.
