Do you give out the good stuff or the bad stuff?

On halloween there are always those houses that give out the full size candy bars, the really good candy or novelty items. You know the ones the "good houses". Then there are the "bad houses". The ones who give out maryjanes, peanut bloosoms, toothbrushes, healthy snacks.
I try to buy a variety of candy and I throw in some party favors also. I like giving out candy at the door. This year ought to be real interesting with Shilo. It will be her first Halloween, she is our 8 month old Akita and real protective of the door. She will be on her leash cause she is real intimidating looking even if she is a big love!

I'm actually very excited about giving out candy this year.
When our older kids were little we were never home to give out candy because it took both of us to supervise them trudging from house to house. Then as they got older we moved out into the country so no one came to the door in the middle of nowhere. Now this year we are back in town and don't have any kids that need us with them trick or treating so I finally get to have the fun of staying home and seeing all the little ones in their costumes.
As to what we'll give out, I'm not sure yet, but I figure it will be somewhere in the middle. We can't afford to give out full size candy bars to all the kids, but I would also never give out the stuff that always sat in my kids bags until I finally threw it away.
For sure it will be something I like and lots of it so I get to eat everything thats left over LOL.
Good luck with Shilo!(we'll probably have to lock ours in their kennel for the night because they're not to friendly at the door either)

I won't be the house with the full size candy bars either lol. I won't be the house with the nasty stuff either though. I will be somewhere in between. I try to get good stuff I pick up a few bags throughout the month so I am not overwhelmed buying it all at once. I also work it into our food budget so it doesn't hurt my pocket book as uch either.

We can't afford to give out full-sized candy bars, but we do give out the good little ones. I remember a few "bad houses" in my neighbourhood that used to drop RELIGIOUS PAMPHLETS into our bags. YECH!! That's not the time to try and convert people. One man gave out candy apples to kids who had their PARENTS with them, and the apples had business cards with his phone number on them, to prove that they were OK for the kids to eat. I thought that was just great!

Well...when my son was little he made a "rule" (and we let him) that we would not give out any gross candy that he wouldn't eat. So we bought things he liked - mostly the yummy candy bars. If we buy mini-chocolates, then we'll give 3 of them. Plus we usually give out other things too. Often make treat bags with 3-4 different candies in them.
But we've also been known to give out gift certificates (when there was a candy scare years ago) and we do often give out invitations to our church as well.

Unfortunately we live in an adult only complex on private poperty so we never get trick or treaters. I don't bother decorating anymore because of that. I miss it too. Luckily when I move next year to a house I'll be able to do that. When I had my house before we always gave out fun size candy bars, but I always gave out several to each child. I remember those houses that would give out religious stickers or bookmarks. The disappointment on the kids faces was so clear. I don't understand why people do that. If you don't want to hand out candy then just leave your light off. We had a guy in our old neighborhood that would give out the HUGE candy bars. Not even the regular size, but the great big ones. He had this giant curving staircase in his entry way and he would stack them up on that and let the kids step in and choose what they wanted. That guy must have spent a fortune on candy every year, because I know one year we had over 200 kids come to the door.

Hey sweet, I'm coming to your house! I give out a few
different individually wrapped candies. I just buy a
few different kinds like nestles crunch, butter fingers,
almond joys, baby ruths, m & m's and throw a couple of
each into the kids bags. We don't always get a lot of
kids in my buidling and I'm the only one home here. My
other neighbors are all at work so this building is
sometimes skipped because there a no lights on inside
the apartments. I love to see the little ones all dressed
up. It's the older ones I'm a little leary about. I stop
answering the door at a certain time and then I won't
even go out. I don't like to be out on Halloween. The kids
do some nasty stuff here sometimes.

I usually give out the snack size good candy. I feel that there are not many kids that eat the bad candy and it will just be a waste of time and money.

We do not pass out any treats as we live in the kind of community where it is prohibited for people to go from door to door. If somebody tries to break the rules we just ignore them. In our town that sort of thing just isn't safe anymore and it is too bad, but better safe than sorry. So we discourage it. I hope you have a good time though and avoid the bad houses like ours, lol.
