Well, today was a clearing out day for me as far as my garden goes.
This is the last batch of pole beans I will get I think.
It is very close to freezing at nighttime now.
I am making pork chops, mashed potatoes, and
some fresh green beans for dinner Sunday.
So did you start your cleaning of plants in your garden?
How is the weather where you are at at nights now?

Good deal.
I recall the 80's.
In more ways than one.
Great music from that era as well.
Hahahaha!

Hello Grandpa Bob. It is also time for Chinese farmers to get in their crops in this season. It is now getting cooler than ever before. I prefer the cool weather. I hope that you will have another good harvest of green beans and tomatoes and such next year. Happy posting, Bob.

Late at night I cleaned them all.
Pulling the stirngs off and snapping them into bite size pieces.
A bunch were bad though from the colds.
Still have enough for dinner today.

Glad you remembered the pole beans Grandpa Bob! I love runner beans which we had an endless supply of, trouble is I can't stand them cooked, I eat them raw, is that strange? But I think all the goodness is there when they are raw, and they are drained away when cooked. It's too cold for any more vegetables so we have to put a close on the plants now and we are starting to clear them away and make the ground prepared for next year.

Eating them raw is not starnge in the least.
In fact while I am picking I'll munch on a few as I pick them.
I love the snappiness when they're raw better.
But cooked with a chunjk of bacon and some garlic.....YUMMY!

It's in the 40's at night here in Ohio and it's absolutely lovely in the daytime. Although we might get warmer next week, this week was in the 60's and it's beginning to smell like Autumn. Soon we'll all be shivering and wishing for Spring!

Same here.
We got near 70 a few days this week. Since Thursday it has been really sunny as well. So it's kept the garden alive for a little longer. But the end is very near.

Nothing beats the taste of homegrown foods.
Now our son called, he is bringing a friend as well.
Got to make a stop at the store and buy more pork chops.

That sounds really good. We are going to have some fried pork chops today with some mashed potatoes, gravy and fresh tomatoes. Our weather has been cold also and we had to take our garden out.

Isn't is sad when you see your garden die off for the winter.
I canned 13 pints and 3 quarts of pickled green beans today. You may ask why 3 quarts, I did not have anymore pints washed and I had the quarts already washed so I can make more spaghetti sauce on Wednesday. I used what I had available.
I hope I did not ruined the green beans I realize when I made the second batch of vinegar water I doubled the salt in the first batch. OH no time will tell if they are toooooooo salty.
Live and learn.
I added garlic, fresh bell pepper and carrots to the green beans.

You had a great summer with that garden of yours and had alot of good things. Unfortunatly the cold weather has set in and time for cleaning up the fun you were haveing. It's good to now you got the last of your pole beans and I hope you enjoy them. It is rather on the cold side at night here in the low 30's sometimes 20's at night now and only in the 50's dureing the day which isn't too bad. Next year is another beginning.

i love pole beans. know u hate to see your garden come to an end. i love fresh veggies. i had just a row of tomatoes, peppers & squash. it didn't do very good. we have not had hardly any rain all summer.we do have a nice farmer's maket every week but they'll probably have to quit pretty soon. i'll miss that.

Sadly, we did not have a garden this year. We had some strawberry plants that were going by themselves, but my dog ate all of them! There are also some cucumber plants that came up on their own, from seed I guess, but they will probably die from the cold before they can make any cucumbers.

My strawberries did well this year.
We have just a few but they sure spread this summer.
So next years crop will be tripled this years I think.
My heat is set at 66 and turned on a couple nights so far.
Not yet freezing here but real close a couple nights.
Snow is just around the corner.
In 1990 I think, we had a Halloween storm with 4 feet of snow in a 24 hour span.
Ugghhh!

I don't have a garden right now so I haven't had to clear out anything. The weather is really getting cool here at night and early in the morning. Your dinner sounds good except for the green beans. LOL I don't like green beans...I don't know why...I just don't seem to care for them. I like about any other kind of veggies though.

I must say that your green beans look very good! And good for you for being able to grow them. I am not sure when or if I will ever be able to grow a garden again, But I sure like seeing how well yours did this year!
