Skunks release the odor from their glands as a defense mechanism against attacks. They don't always smell, just when they spray it when threatened.

lol. thats cool. i never realized that. my hubby is the one that thought of this question he is so funny he said so what if the female skunk felt threatened. i guess she would spray the male right. lol. damn i wish we could do that lol. just kidding. lololololol

I have seen some humans together that I have often asked the same question about. I think skunks can control when they release the odor. Unlike humans who some just seem to stink all the time. Maybe it is the smell that attracts them and strange as it may be.

hello mscott. thats so funny. i never thought of it as that. my hubby had this question we keep having skunks all over this area and they freakin stink so damn bad. he just came up with this and so i thought i would ask it. lol. thanks for the response.

Maybe it smells bad to us but maybe the smell is attractive to them.
Maybe it's like when two people eat garlic, they can't smell it on the other person.
