Yes, it is true. Some economists, at UCLA of all places, have totally scrutinized FDR's NEW DEAL to determine how it impacted the Great Depression. Did it help or hurt? http://newsroom.ucla.edu/portal/ucla/FDR-s-Policies-Prolonged-Depression-5409.aspx?RelNum=5409 I say good for these economists on conducting an objective study and going where their findings took them. What do you say?

McCain backed off his statement about the fundamentals of our economy being strong. He backed off because people are scared and he didn't want them to think he intends to do nothing about it. I think he got it right, because the foundation of our ecomony is the American people and their ingenuity. If government involves itself less and lets the people rebuild their economy, capitalism will work as it is supposed to and rise from the ashes to prosper.

Sometimes people have a problem dealing with the simple truth all at once, but eventually they come around. The economy will recover without government help just like my star is slowly rising! (Now, it's doomed?)

I think the ecomomy can recover with MINIMAL government aid, not totally absent government aid. Enable them to rise by giving them enough aid to stand up and then let them walk on their own.

In other words, the government interfered in the free market economy and a lasting depression was the result. Now we are doing it all over again.

The most ridiculous thing about it is that after the government intervenes and screws things up, they point to it as an example of free markets failing.

How can it possibly be a free market if the government is interfering? That is where these liberals don't have a clue... if they would leave the market alone, it is self correcting. Just as the FED caused the last depression, government interference and these bailouts will cause the next. I especially like how the democrats have been claiming us to be in a recession for over a year, while at the same time all the news reports were talking about fearing a recession that hadn't happened yet. Then when the economy gets into trouble, we find that the democrats caused it.... yet 0bama is blaming it on the republican's desire to deregulate the banking industry. 0bama was one of those suing the banks for not making these bad loans to undeserving applicants under the guise of racist lending practices. 0bma is a liar.

You did not miss anything. I guess enough time has passed they think they can do it again.

I am glad they did the study and am not too surprised about the out come. Free market will always decide. When government gets involved, people go out of business. How is that good? When the small guy can't run anymore, that just leaves big business to decide prices.

I could release a convincing study that proves John McCains wife is an alien sent to destroy the world. Especially when media report results and no one really sees the study.--Though I am a "liberal" I dont really care how we recover the economy, if the right way is just to step back and let things unfold than great..but right..this study by two old men proves trickle down economics would pull us out of a depression. LOL
