I know I have packrat tendencies, but My relations gave me some furniture recently, and they had to help me Declutter to make room for it! I suppose I just didn't know where to start when the stuff I have already was in good condition, and I didn't want to see it go to a landfill or someplace like that..Some stuff went to "Freecycle" members in the area, the rest had to go! Have You got the neatness bug,or are You a Packrat?
Thanks for responses!

We have packrat tendencies on my mothers side of the family. Though there comes a time when you have to give up things that you no longer use or never use. KWIM? My Grandparents, My Aunt & her H, & My Uncle are all big hoarders.... it was awful cleaning out my grandmothers house when she passed. Now my uncle who lives there is still hoarding things & they are odd things like bread bags & egg cartons things that could be used for craft projects ect because she kept alot of those things for craft projects for my art teacher, but when I was in HS she was still collecting the stuff!!!

It's taken me a while to let go of old clothes too. Though, it usually the ones that need to be replaced, I keep thinking that I could wear something just a lil longer. But that's probably also the frugal person in me as I don't have alot of money to run out and buy the new fancy things I'd like to have on one income KWIM? So in my minds eye I'm stretching our dollars by making due with many things. I also tell myself I could all that shirt to this or that quilt I"m working on but will I?
My dh is good @ going thru stuff w/o remorse! Only problem is getting him to do it!

For me it's the same with clothing-I'd been given gifts of clothing, pullovers, shirts and such for Birthdays,Christmas and such over recent years, not to mention shoping for stuff for special occasions ,some of it was hardly used-hard to accept that the monetary value of those things being considered expendable, having received or paid for it..I DID have a lot of T-Shirts!

My DH has alot of Tee's also but I buy them when I see them for next to nothing as he has a tendancy to trash them gairly often no point in paying full price when u can stock up. I found a bunch this spring for $1ea @ k-mart & grabbed everyone he liked.
I do get clothes occasionally but they usually r too small or not in my taste. But I'll make due w/ ugly for the sake of using it & not spending $ I already don'tr have for something else KWIM?

Hello! In what way we arrange things in the house it gets cluttered soon.I don't understand how to de-clutter the house once for all.I think it is due to the excess stuff which are in the house but less used.So I have decided not to bring home any thing which have less importance for the family and dispose as far practicable all the stuff which are responsible to be cluttering the rooms.I will start the process of de-cluttering the rooms soon so that before New Year I shall do away with this problem.thanx.

That sounds like a good plan,so long as you have control over what all comes in to the place! Good luck with Yours!

I am always decluttering my house. I hate clutter. I donate a ton to freecycle. I actually have just bought some rubbermaid tubs and I am going to start on the basement. I have a ton of Christmas Decorations that I don't ever use, so tomorrow my daughter and I are going threw them. I found stuff from my wedding (21 yrs ago). I couldnt'get rid of it, but I did put it in a bucket and mark it wedding stuff. Once the basement gets decluttered, I will then start back in my daughters room...that is where the vicious cycle always begins.

I'm not going to let the place get back into the state it was in once we get it sorted, but I can only express admiration that You can keep control over the stuff in your place that way!
