Be it the cherries, strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, or blackberries, the months of May to September offer a bountiful harvest of berry goodness. Best of all, berries are rich in fiber and are a delicious source of disease-fighting antioxidants. When buying berries, always choose dry, plump, and brightly colored ones with no obvious rotten spots. Avoid containers with juice stains. This is a sign that the berries are either bruised or overripe. Avoid containers with signs of mold. Mold travels like wildfire through berries. Store your berries unwashed in the refrigerator in a covered container. Fresh berries don't last long and are best consumed within a few days after purchase. For longer storage, berries can be stored in the freezer for up to four months. To freeze, spread the berries out on a cookie tray and freeze before consolidating into a smaller container. When you're ready to use your berries, you can enjoy them as it is or with a generous topping of yogurt, with high-fiber, whole-grain cereal, or even in salads! Whatever you choose to do, make sure to wash your berries before eating them, since they can often harbor bacteria.

i'm not really a berry person. i find the little bits of seeds a little troubling. they tend to get stuck in between my teeth. i'll have a hard time cleaning them up after eating any kind of berries. the list of things to looks out for is really good. my partner loves berries and he is always buying them. we always wash it BEFORE keeping them in the fridge. so that's not the correct way to keep them. ;p

Hmm... I guess you are referring to Raspberies and Blackberries. There are so many kinds of berries in the market. You will never have the little seeds problem when eating cherries! I love them a lot. One kilogram of them stuff is never enough! If they were not so darn expensive, I would probably have them everyday when they are in season! I too also prefer to wash them before storing, so that went we get it to eat, it is all cold. If you do not wash first, then by the time you do, the berries are no longer cold cos the water would have 'thawed' them a little. Anyways, berries never get a chance to stay too long in my fridge. So no worries about it going bad before they are consumed.

ha ha ha ha... I never really viewed the strawberry seeds as seeds. Just chew and swallow loh. Cherries are also one of my favorites. $30++ for a kilo? That is one heck of an expensive cherries you are eating. I usually get mine for about $20 +-. The vendor comes around to the company every now and then. And when the cherries are in season, I will usually get them! Can never get enough of them! Which ones you like better? The white cherries or the red ones?

I love them... all but blueberries for some reason. I know a lot of people that freeze them , but I don't really like them that much after being frozen. When I freeze them it is to make smoothies or milkshakes after. I love to eat them completely natural. NO sugar, yogurt, ice cream, whipping cream etc. However in here they are not as sweet as they were back home and sometimes it's not possible to eat them without some sort of toping. That's why sometimes they are quite affordable but I don't buy them. THey're good for eating with some sweeter thing on top, but not to eat just natural.

ha ha ha ha ha... among all the berries, blueberries has the least number of seeds in them. Interesting that you like berries but not blueberries. I too prefer to eat them berries fresh. Some how, after they are frozen, they do not have the same texture anymore when you defrost them again before consumption. Most times, I too, eat them as they are. Unless I got some craving when I am eating yoghurt. :p

I love strawberries and cherries... and i remember everytime i go to baguio... i would always bring home a lot of strawberries... and i had to carry them on my lap for the whole 8 hours of travel... or else they will spoil easily... I haven't tried freezing them... but i will do that when i get the chance... it is always nice to have strawberries as dessert or just for snacks...

I too love to eat strawberries! I will always remember the time I went to Cameron Highlands in Malaysia, and we visited the Strawberry Farm. We bout quite a few boxes of thinking of eating it at the hotel later. But the smell was so fragrant, we ate them all in the car on the way up to the hotel! I too have not tried freezing any berries before. They are always gone before I could get the chance to!
