Why do some discussions simply die and stop getting responses?

Have you ever had this happen to you?
Sometimes, I post a discussion and there's a
really good flurry of responses for the first
hour or so. And, by then, there's a page of responses.
Then suddenly, nothing!
An hour later, still nothing.
And at midnight, only one or two more responses.
It just stops at the end of the first page
and never goes further.
Have you ever had that happen to one of your
discussions. It starts out good, but dies suddenly?
P.S. I'm not complaining.
But I thought maybe it was just some kind
of glitch.

I think it is because so many people are more interested in posting their own threads and as a result another person's thread gets pushed down so much. The only way to find the thread is if the a person is on your friend's list and bothers to check friend's conversations. Or if a person regularly goes through a section and ignores all the new posts.

Well, for the first hour or so, if you are not at a peak time, it will be shown under discussions from my friends. So your friends will be the first to respond to it. But sooner, when newer discussions come up, the older ones are pushed out and disappear from the list. So if your friends have a lot of friends who also make discussions then the chances of your discussion staying in the list are very slim. You are lucky you get some responses to your discussions. I get very few, one or two at the max..
Not feeling sorry about it.
The other reason might be that it interests only some people here in myLot. I have been responding to your discussions from the time I joined myLot, and I have to say that your discussions are interesting enough for me. And I respond to most of them. Looks like your discussions have to woo another category of myLot users..Best of Luck

Thanks for saying so!
Everyone is giving such great answers.
I guess I was thinking about just one
or two times when there is just a handful
of answers and then suddenly nothing.
Guess I hadn't counted on the fact
that the discussion is being buried under
other discussions.
That makes so much sense.
Thanks for the explanation.

I'm so happy that I made a decision to add you as my friend, because your discussions are the most that I answer. And I love the topics. They are so different from others and interesting too..

I guess it all depends who is on at the time and how fast get gets past the first few pages as this is probably where most people work from...and i guess how the discussion interests cover a large amount of posters...

Not sure why that happens. Some of them just get old, I guess.

I usually leave a few responses empty just for the sole purpose of going back after awhile to add a comment bringing the older discussions back to the top[ of my page. Just a little trick I like doing here. Members respond when they are feeling up to it. I read new discussions sometimes early morning yet don't respond till later at night. Just something I think other members may do as well.
HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

I do that lots of times.
I post my discussions really early on in
the afternoon and then get busy being a mom.
Then I come back later and respond.
Hope everyone doesn't mind.

Maybe because there are so many topics, it's hard to keep up without being here all day. Doing that, we do nothing else. And soon the landlord will evict us because we didn't work and can't pay the rent.

With this many members the new questions come up and people respond to them, and after about an hour, a discussion is "old". A strategy that you can implement is to go in periodically and comment on a response, which will bring your discussion back up toward the top and will probably gain new attention.

You've got to be reading my mind!
I swear that I just thought about
that a second before reading your response.
You're so right! If a person comes
along and responds to my old discussions,
that bumps the new discussions down
to page two on my profile page
where they never get seen.
I'm going to try that idea!
Thanks.

It happens to me all the time but no complains here also. I guess it happens almost all the time because every body's starting a lot of responses at once and the discussion I started would get drowned by the new ones. Plus factor would be that maybe some of my friends didn't turn their notification on and they haven't seen the one I started.

hi beauty queen you do make such great discussions I cannot
imagine not getting a lot of responses. I know I will respond
every time I see one of your discussions. you need to perk your
friends up a bit I guess. I know that at certain times here it gets so slow loading it might make some people tune out to something else. I have had it happen on my discussions on diabetes like maybe people fear the disease so much they dont want to respond yet its so much easier now days to be a diabetic and theres so much info out there to learn. but people will be people.

Oh! Thanks for saying so.
I love your discussions too.
Very insightful, always.
I have done tons of posting
to friend discussions today and
catching up.
I've resolved to be better about
going to friend discussions.
I'm thinking about hitting the
"new discussions" link every hour
or so to catch what's new so I can
be one of the first to post with friends.
Thanks for your advice.
I'll try to check out your discussions soon.

It happen to me too but i didnt mind it at all. Usually as times passes by there are more discussion posted by some members and so that divide the attention of members who were participating which is probably one of the reason why all of the sudden a certain discussion didnt received any responses at all.
