My family (parents and siblings) lives about a thousand miles away. I was thinking of ideas for homemade gifts we could send for Christmas. So far I have come up with picture frames including pictures of the kids and christmas tree ornaments. What ideas for homemade gifts would you suggest? I'm looking for things the kids can make as gifts. Thanks.

Since you said that they love to cook, you could make them one of these cute christmas cookies in a jar gifts. You layer the ingredients, decorate the outside, and add the recipe to the lid. They would be great for the kids to help make too.
Here's an example:

Well, you could always try to weave something from plarn. (Plastic yarn you make out of shopping bags from grocery stores)
You can make alot of things out of plarn, rugs, decorations, handbags...

There are always pencil holders or utensil holders made from cans and various things. The kids can cut pictures from magazines or old catalogs, etc. and glue them onto coffee cans (for utensils) or vegetable cans (for pencils), then cover them with a couple of coats of white glue. You might want to seal them with varnish or polyurethane.

That's a good idea. I could put pics of the kids on them too. Thanks.

We are making aprons for the family for Christmas this year. I am making my mom a flower arangement for my Mom. For neighbors we are making treats. I am still looking for a bunch of ideas to fill in the gaps. Money it tight right now and we need all the help we can get. Thank you for starting this so we can all share.

Aprons would be awesome. My family LOVES to cook and they're great at it. I hear my li'l brother is becoming quite the gourmet chef. My big bro has always been one heck of a cook.
Thanks, that was an awesome idea!

I think if your family is far away, they will enjoy anything with photos of your family.
I had the kids make candle holders this year. We took salsa jars, cleaned them out and took off the labels. Then I bought those foam stickers of hearts and flowers. They took these and decorated the outside of the salsa jars. Then I took a few decorative stones and a votive candle and put them in the jar. They came out so cute.

Theme gift baskets are a great idea. Not only can you create theme gifts, but you can personalize them as well.Once you get the process down, it will become second nature to keep your eyes open for empty baskets, decorative materials, and small gift items that work in many different theme gift baskets. Ornaments are a fantastic idea!

we have 4 young nieces that come from families that are much more well to do than ours so this year i have made each one of them a scrapbook with pictures that i have taken of them (or you could get them sent to you) with pages that are of interest to them (ie princesses) and have added papers and stickers so they can continue on.
i am also making a shadow box for an elderly aunt (the frame i bought at the dollar store.)
