MMDA officers are like the police here in Manila, Philippines. They're not like NYPD or LAPD officers at all. Most of them are fat and old. Some are even believed to be garbage collectors before they became MMDA officers. Aside from their light blue uniform, MMDA officers are known for being corrupt. They always pull over cars and extort money. For the Filipinos: do you respect MMDA officers? Do you think they're just doing their job or should they be fired?

if it is all for the sake of respect.. yes, I respect them. but they are the one who are taking away the respect of other people. I believe that not all MMDA officers are corrupt. there are just some who's taking advantage of their powers.. take a look at it.. drivers are afraid of them, where in fact, they didn't graduate from college? they're just like drivers also whose taking advantage of whatever powers they have.

especially here in Pasig. there are lots of blue boys here who are actually making the streets more traffic!

It's true actually. But you know what, I see less MMDAs now! I think there are more private police like police for Makati, police for Pasig...Maybe the government is finally realizing that the MMDAs are quite useless

Corruption is everywhere, politicians, MMDA and all, but there are few who are still nice, as what my hubby experienced last time an officer asked us to stop and he let us go. but more officers are not that nice

Oh yeah I remember responding to that discussion you made a while back about the MMDA letting you go...that's still not a sign of competence though it just showed that he's kind and not corrupt.

These MMDA officers are definitely nothing like NYPD or LAPD. All these guys are are traffic "enforcers." They just stand around waving their hand and blowing whistles. They stop a car every once in a while when that car is out on it's color coded day but then that's about the only time they pull a car over. They pull trucks with more than 4 wheels on weekdays which is also OK but they don't pull buses over that much. I have no idea why. They don't pull smoke belchers over either. When they start doing their jobs properly, then I'll start respecting them. Now, I'll still look at them as corrupt and lazy traffic "enforcers."

I've actually seen buses being pulled over along EDSA because they violated the "no chips no trips" rule. But yeah, I wonder why smoke belchers are let off the hook!!! I spend so much money on a tune up just so that I don't contribute to the pollution so I think others should do their part too!

It's the law that you should respect and not the persons who implement it. Although as "law enforcers", the MMDA officers should set a good example to earn credibility and respect accorded to their office.

Well they're very bad examples so their credibility is nonexistent in my case. :P

If what you say is what these people are, then they cannot be trusted and earn no respect. I don't live in Manila and in my city we don't have MMDA. When I went to Manila, I haven't encountered the MMDA but I have noticed some along the highway. The nearest I got to know these people are from the news on TV and some are good and some a bad.

Though I have known people who worked there, I guess I have little respect of them. I mean, they really do not have police power I believe. :D
