I found out I might have diabetes. Will have to find out if it is just my sugar level too high temporarily as I have been losing weight anyway, but just in case, I would like to know what you all would recommend as a diabetic cookbook? I was thinking of the weightwatchers cookbook. I have several recipes and also I can get a used one at Value Village. I have a book called "Reversing Diabetes" but I want to have a cookbook that also includes bread recipes. So what cookbook would any of you recommend or will the WeightWatchers cookbook do just as well?

Honestly, the best book my mom found with the tastiest foods was Feasting on a Diabetic Diet - here's a link to the Amazon page: http://www.amazon.com/Feast-diabetic-Diet-Euell-Gibbons/dp/0449215652/ref=sr_1_38?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1224206944&sr=1-38

Thanks. I will see if they have it in our local bookstore. They have quite a large selection of cookbooks.

Yes it is. I will probably have to get the Weightwatcher Cookbook or go looking again. If it is out of print, probably things have changed since then. My father-in-law was a diabetic and the rules were no, no no, you can't eat this, you can;t eat that, you are only allowed one slice of bread and if you have that, no cereal, no pasta.

the low G.I. cookbook is a good one. seriously, you should look on the Diabetes America website for guidance. ( I am assuming you are in the USA ) or any national diabetes site. There are often links and info you need. you need professional advice here, as you are dealing with a serious health problem.

I live in Canada, but I suppose I could join the website. I heard that low G.I. is good. In fact, the book I have recommends it. I do not know if I am diabetic or just about to be, but I want to be sure because my father was one and he could not lose weight. I have been able to lose one, so I figure that I may be almost there and I do not want to become a full blown one. I do have a doctor, but I have to have a glucose test on Tuesday, and then go back to him to find out what is what.

I don't know of any diabetic cook book but I came across these menus and recipes at Care2 Healthy and Green Living. http://www.eatingwell.com/recipes/collections/diabetic_diet.html This is a place to start until you can find the cook book you want.

Okay I will look at this site. It does look interesting and I will bookmark it. I like some of the recipes. I will have to try them out after I get more of the ingredients. It seems once you are a diabetic or almost one, you have to have more money on groceries. We stocked up on more salad stuff, and usually we spend around $80, but this time the grocery bill went up to $130.

I can get used Weight Watchers cookbooks at our second hand department store, Value Village. I guess they are from people who have been successful, lost the weight, and do not need to diet any more. I like choices and I do not like being hungry. Thanks

hi suspenseful join the 'American Diabetes Assoc and you will get forecast magazine with lots of neat recipes and really informative articles on diabetes, also you can get a percentage off any books on diabetic cooking that you order. You may be prediabetic and can reverse it by losing weight and getting half an hour of exercise most days. Youcan even find diabetic cookbooks for free in the library or for very little at a used book store too. good luck and God Bless.

I went to the website and saw some very good suggestions, and we do have a good second hand store as well as the Mall near our place. My budget is quite tight right now. I found that it is a bit more expensive buying healthy then assumed healthy. I have been stocking up on stuff. I have to try some of the recipes on that American Diabetes website. I think I am prediabetic, and have already lost some weight, but that was before I went to the doctor, so do not know if it is the weight you lose naturally by dieting or exercise or the weight you lose when you are diabetic and don't know it.
