Should there be a limit on abortion?

Personally I would never have an abortion however it is legal to do so in my home country. Ladies are allowed to abort up to 24 weeks pregnancy. I think that it would be better if pregnancy tests were free and the limit was lowered to 12 weeks. A lady can find out she is pregnant as early as 4 weeks pregnant by using a pregnancy test. Should all ladies be allowed to have an abortion or just some because of circumstances? Is abortion legal in your home country? If so what is the time limit? Would you favor a lower time limit? To how many weeks?

In the US the time limit varies by state. I believe most states cut off is around 20 weeks. What most fail to understand is that the vast majority are preformed before even 12 weeks (I believe the stat on that is 94%). The few that are preformed later in a pregnancy are more often than not because the family learned that there was a severe birth defect. I don't know that I could terminate a pregnancy I was planning to continue for that reason, but I do know I wouldn't want any one but my partner & I to have the ability to make that choice. I am 100% pro-choice. I believe women should have absolute sovereignty over their bodies, and we should each be allowed to make choices for ourselves without needing to justify those choices to anyone. I don't think why a women chooses to terminate, when she chooses to terminate, or how many terminations she may have is anyone's concern but her own. Of course from a medical point of view, pregnancies are taxing on a body no matter how they end and for that reason alone avoiding pregnancies when one doesn't wish to be a parent is any woman's first best choice.

I really don't know what states allow an abaortion at 24 weeks. I know here in the US in most places that I have lived anyway do not allow it at 24 weeks, unless it's a health issue for the mother. I think 12 weeks is also up there... If it's going to be allowed & we had to choose, I would think 6 weeks & that is pushing it in my eyes. You can find out your pregnant at 2 weeks... As for pregnancy tests, they are free at clinics for woman who need to take a test.

I think that in the USA each state has different laws. In my home country a pregnancy lasts for 40 weeks from the last period but in the USA I imagine that pregnancy lasts for 38 weeks from conception. It is great pregnancy tests are free at clinics. I think that 6 weeks would be reasonable. Every lady should be sure of what she will do if she gets a surprise pregnancy then she could act quickly.

Hello Classy Cat. I would never have an abortion so I am talking about other people here. Yes, babies are really in pain during an abortion I imagine. I wonder how the lady felt if she could hear her baby screaming at her 16 week abortion. I believe that every baby is special and deserves a loving home. If abortion was made illegal it would please me and the ladies could travel elsewhere in Europe to have one.

I am against abortion, because it IS an act of murder. I believe anyone who wants to have an abortion, should have to witness one first. If women saw what takes place, many of them would never even want to think about having one. I understand that there may be exceptions in some folk's eyes. The medical field started using the term 'fetus' some years back, but it is a baby - not a blob of tissue. It has a spirit and a soul, and is created in God's image. I do believe though, that all women do have the right to be RESPONSIBLE when having relations, and use birth control - or practice abstinence. We've gotten to become so lazy and selfish to where all that is important any more, is what "I" want and it's "My" body, etc. God has a plan for every life that comes into the earth. Those doctors who interfere with that, will one day give an account before him, as will the carriers of thes babies, unles they ask forgiveness, and repent (which means to start thinking differently.) I know that my statements are absolutely NOT popular in this day of wholesale slaughter with no conscience where these innocent little lives are concerned. But I just have to share my feelings on this. I also feel that if someone for sure doesn't want any children they should have the right to be sterilized, and not have any. Some years ago, there were some tests done, where a listening device was attached to a young woman's abdomen while an abortion was done at I believe about 16 weeks. The baby was heard to be screaming as it was in the beginning stages of its removal.

I agree with a lower limit, but I am not exactly sure it would make any difference. An abortion will be an abortion no matter what. But for me it makes sense to lower the limit. But I am not sure if there are any medical condition that will show up only after a certain number of weeks, that might be the reason for that 24 week rule. I am not completely sure but I think abortion is allowed in here only in specific circumstances.

Abortion is killing a baby but as the baby gets older he or she's body develops more detail so earlier is better than later. A lady can find out she is pregnant at 4 weeks pregnancy with a test bought from a chemist. My school friend aged 20 aborted her baby at a late stage. She had felt her baby kick so I guess she was about 18 weeks pregnant. Thanks for your super detail.

Yes I do think there should be limits to how many abortions a woman should have because I have seen women who use abortion as a form of birth control and have had like 6-7 of them.. This really does anger me when they do this because I view abortion as murder, and no, I'm not some religious right winged zealous . I'm just a humanist and I believe it's illogical to have a abortion when there are a lot of married couples in this world who can't have children and would love to adopt a baby within there own city but they don't have many options because these children are being killed threw abortions and not everyone can afford to fly around the world like Mr & Mrs Brad Pitt to adopt babies in another country... But this is just my opinion..

If a lady has one abortion just due to an unplanned and unwanted pregnancy I hope that she will learn to be more careful. It is unacceptable for a lady to have multiple abortions and to use them like birth control. I was reading about teenage abortions and one lady in her twenties added that she had six abortions between the ages of fifteen and twenty three years old. I agree that many married couples like Mr and Mrs Brad Pitt adopt but ordinary people can't afford to adopt internationally. I would love to adopt a girl that is unwanted because I have two sons and I would dearly love to have a daughter. In the sixties my mum's friend adopted a girl from a teenage mother and a boy from an older business lady. These days mothers like that have the chance to abort so that is terribly sad. Thanks for your opinion.

Someday I would like to consider to adopt a girl also because I don't think I can have anymore children. I have one son that I had with my husband almost 7 years ago and I love him to pieces but I'm currently having reproductive problems and I will have to lose one of my ovary's soon which will reduce my chances of having another child.I'm not rich so I don't think it's possible for me to adopt any time soon because I know people who have a lot of money have better chances of adopting. But if it doesn't happen I'm ok. I'm happy to have my son and I do my best to see that all his needs are met. Good luck with adopting a girl in the future :)

In my country, Malaysia, abortion is illegal. But I have heard of private clinics which offer illegal abortion services to meet the demands. To be frank, this is the first time I have heard of limiting maximum the number of weeks for abortion to be allowed. I feel this is a splendid idea, also a good middle ground between those who support abortion and those who oppose it. I am not really sure how many weeks would be appropriate because I am not a doctor and am not familiar with the human embryo at their early stages of life. I think it would be to abort the baby as long as the baby does not have a complete nervous system and thus, unable to feel pain. Or perhaps, the limit should the time when they start to be able to think and to dream. I am not sure, I guess its better to leave the debate to the experts. I support abortion for people who really needs it. :)

So abortion is illegal in your home country. I have been to lovely Malaysia so I imagine the clinics are clean. Every week a baby develops a bit more until he or she is ready to be born. If my home country set a limit at 12 weeks, unless for a medical emergency, I think many people would be pleased. I think if the mother's life is in danger or the baby will be severely disabled for life would be considered medical emergencies.

Abortion is illegal here in our country but many still do it in secret and leave the fetus in garbage dumps. I dont agree on abortion. Irresponsible people should not be tolerated. Self discipline is the best alternative to this practice. Have a nice day.
