If so, what will it be and when will it surpass oil?

Production of natural gas in the Gulf of Mexico is suffering. Roughly 68 billion cubic feet of natural gas output has been lost since Sept. 13, and daily output remains 1.7 billion cubic feet below normal.

Nobody can really answer that question, but it's probably gonna either be ethanol or hydrogen. Scientists are looking into both, the good thing is that it will make gas so much cheaper because there's an unlimited supply. I don't think our country will be able to last another 20 years on oil so alternative means should be found soon. My history teacher told me that this one oil rig has been sucking up the oil from the same hole for more than 30 years because it's so huge, but these scientists calculated there's only so much possible in that one hole so it's gonna be empty soon.
