Do You Prefer Bar Soap or Liquid Soap

I really love the goat milk bar soap for the shower as well as the bath. Lately I came across a Dove Liquid moisturizing soap that I washed my hands with. I found it amazingly soft on my hands with a gently scent. Now I want to go get some to use at my bathroom sink. What type of soap do you prefer? bar or liquid and why?

I prefer solid soaps, as they're more hygienic, and in working for a soap company, I know that a solid product is always more hygienic, as a liquid is more suitable for bacteria breeding. that's why liquid soaps have preservatives in them, and solid ones don't. so solid soaps are healthier, more hygienic and more economical.

and to add to that, a solid product is more environmentally friendly, as it requires no packaging. liquid soap needs a bottle, and water is the main ingredient. with a solid, you add your own water, so it takes up less space in transit too, as well as being packaging free. so lower environmental impact all round.

Well I have tried both and I do not like liquid soap but I cannot use ordinary soap either as it makes my skin itch. I have to use the dove beauty bar as it makes a nice lather and does not make my skin itch. The trouble is that is melts in water far too easily and so I have to be careful when I use it and store it. I never had problems with soap until I got eczema from a necklace made of base metal and now my skin has become super sensitive to all sorts of things. I cannot wear wool any more unless I can avoid it touching my skin so all my lovely woollen jumpers are no good any more. I have never tried goat milk soap and the liquid soaps just don't seem to be nice to my skins. Dove is good.

Hi sharra1, dove is a nice soap but so is goats milk soap too. I am sorry to hear of the problems you have with your skin now. Itchy is no good and sad about your sweaters. How about wearing a cotton turtle neck under the sweater so that you may still wear it without irritation. I know what you mean about the soap melting away in the water. Goats Milk soap will do the same thing. Glycerin soap is very good too. It lathers and works good. Most gentle on all skin types. Less expensive than dove as well. thank you for your response.

Oh I can still wear some of my jumpers if I am careful with cotton next to my skin. But I had to beautiful lambs wool fluffy jumpers that had big cowl necks and I cannot wear them any more at all. I have not been able to find a skivvy with a stand up collar and I need that to wear 2 other jumpers. I keep looking in the shops but where I live now it does not get so cold in winter so they do not sell that kind of skivvy.

I like making my own liquid soaps. I buy a detergent base then add my own ingredients according to however I'm going to use it. I make shampoo, bath soap and dish soap with it. I like the fact that I can control the ph balance as well. Most bar soaps are very alkaline, from 8-10 on the ph scale. Skin ph is between 4.5-6. I usually keep my liquid bath soap at about 6-6.5. Much gentler on the skin. It cleans very well but doesn't dry my skin as much as commercial soaps do. I like the fact that I can scent it with anything I want as well. The best thing of all is I buy the base by the gallon and it's so concentrated that I can make enough soap to last a year. Best of all I can make a 15 oz bottle of shampoo for about 60 cents and it's as good or better than most commercial shampoos. Saves me a ton of money and I enjoy making it. It's become a regular hobby!

Very nice. I love the idea of making your own soap and shampoo. I am impressed. Scenting it would be fun and I love the savings. Ability to control the ph is a major factor that I understand. hats off to you for being so clever. Thank you for your comment. I have enjoyed what you had to say.

Hi, Craftcatcher, will you please be kind to post some topics about your soap making and your ingredients. I really think its smart of you and I really would be very happy to learn more about it. Well I am not very much particular as to liquid soap or bar soap, but I always want the mildest soap and I enjoy sweet scented soap. I feel like I am always fresh to use mild and sweet scented soap. I could feel gentleness thru sweet smells

I always prefer liquid soap since I like the foam it lathers together with the sponge. I haven't used a bar soap for a long time. And I think liquid soap is easier to share with other family members.

ia gree that the liquid soap is easier if you are using a shared shower or bath. I love how it lathers also. Right now, I live alone and am using an ivory bar soap. It lathers a lot too and I enjoy the clean scent smell. Thank you for your response.

I prefer using bar soaps whenever I take a bath and liquid soap for washing my hands. I feel whenever I use liquid soap while bathing, its hard to rinse off because you can still feel its soapiness... Hehe!

Thank you for your response borgborg; I too use bar soap and use liquid soap when washing hands, when i am not having a bath or shower. Liquid soap seems so concentrated as well. The trick to rinsing off a good quality soap from your skin, is to use hot water.

I guess I prefer liquid. It's easier to use when in the shower in my opinion. You only have to open up the bottle of soap and get ready to lather it on. Bars of soap take a bit longer to get a lather going and then you have to try not to drop it and everything else. And, the liquid soap tends to make your skin softer than the bar soap too.

Yes, I too have found that the liquid soap leaves my skin feeling softer but I often use Goats Milk bar soap and that leaves my skin silky. Liquid soap does seem more convenient in the shower sometimes, that is true. Thank you for your comment.

I prefer liquid soap and shower gels. If I'm using bar soaps, I've to apply to the skin or body, and if someone else uses it; I don't like to use it again. Whereas for liquid soap and bath gels, I just have to squeeze out whatever I need from the bottle, so it's more hygienic. I usually go for rose or lavender fragrance.

I totally understand what you mean about others using the same bar of soap. I have come across this on occasion also. Especially when sharing a place with people other than say immediate family, even then, it can be somewhat questionable... Liquid soap, in my opinion is better in this circumstance for sure. Thanks for posting your thoughts.

Liquid because bar soaps always slip out of the hands and then sometimes they can sit in dirt or get peoples hair in them.

Thank you for your comment. Yes, I dislike a bar of soap with hair on it also.
