Police arrest gunman who entered an elementary school in Maine. No reports of injuries at Stockton Springs Elementary School. Gunman held 11 pupils hostage but was tackled outside the classroom. The gunman walked into a fifth-grade classroom around the start of the day. State police were called at 8:42 a.m. and Hofland was arrested about 20 minutes later. What safety precautions does the school your kids are at take? DO you think schools should just factor into their budget for security guards?

Hrm... well I do think security guards would be a good idea, but budgets are so tight. I don't know. I know that there is a locked door at the front of the school, but I think there are still doors someone could enter by. I have been in the school before hours dropping off my kids and there doesn't seem to be anyone present to stop me. Perhaps they know me by now...

Our elementary school doesn't have guards but our High school does have guards inside and out. For the kids and the schools protection. I think that schools should lock doors after children are inside and have a guard and also a metal detector so that it will be a safer environment for the children and school. I think they should factor it in. Because look how many times schools have been in the news because of weapons or people hurting others and often killing them. We have to protect the children whom are our future.

My son's school you can walk in any time of day. They do not lock the doors. The office is right inside the door though, so they would see someone coming in. Out here I guess they do not worry about it. When we lived in the city I had to be buzzed in to my son's school during the day.
