Do you prefer to pay more attention to international or the domestic news?

I prefer to pay more attention to international news rather than national news. Since people around me are very gossipy, I am already kept informed about the news here. There is a phrase that I hear often, "think globally and act locally." To mange my life in my town I need to know about the environment outside its borders. Who are the influential learders of the world and what are they doing? Their ideas about oil, energy or politics affect opportunities in my country. World events determine what my uncle pays for the gas in his car, the safety of the imported food my mom eats and my dad's decision to travel to a foreign country on next holiday. It can even affects my study. On a lighter one, my younger sister sort of likes to keep track of music trends. Well, I need to let her know, which is my responsibility as a big sister. Paying attention to global new helps us understand the bigger picture and how I fit into for both my study and leisure. What about you?

I pay more attention in local news as I want to be updated on what was happening in my country and the latest news in my community. But I also made sure that I watch a foreign news so I'll know what is happening abroad and if the situation in other countries will affect our economy.

For example, the whole world pay attention to the new US president. No one knows what might end up though

I try to find the good news and turn a blind eye to the bad news. I don't buy local newspaper! The newyork, times, on the other hand, seem to be more interesting.

I usually tend to pay more attention to the international news even if there are some important local news. I don't really know why. Maybe because I want to know what is going on in the world and not only in our Country. And if there is something important I most probably will hear it from friends or some family member anyway.

Yup, the local news spread from one to ten, and from ten to a hundred. Even if I don't really want to know, it will be a household name after all.

I would much rather prefer to watch the local news in my area. I get tired of watching it sometimes too with all of the bad things going on in the world these days.

I always try to avoid bad things in the world. It goes the same way for dramas. As you know, the comedy is more attractive!

Hi hiddenwing, I totally agree with you and I believe we should all follow international news. The world has become much smaller in recent years and what affects one affects all. It is important too that young people especially, understand this. Blessings.

Since I don't have your gossipy peers to brief me, I tend to look at the news in reverse order, more like this 1. city (our small city where we live) 2. regional (county where we live and the neighboring county to the west that holds most of the nearest large city) 3. state 4. national 5. Mexico (country which shares a border with the state where we live) 6. Other international news This may seem selfish. Maybe it is. At this stage of my life, I'm most interested in what I expect to affect me the soonest.

Well, it has nothing to do with selfishness. I am sure you are a kind person, hehe. Have a nice day!

Local issues are more improtant as you can actually influence them. Global issues tend to dominate the news as they are 'bigger' but in reality many of them should not be there. We should NOT be in Iraq or Afghanistan. Let (s)he who is without sin cast the first stone. Until we have sorted out the human rights abuses in this country, who are we to go round the world trying to enforce our brand of elected dictatorship on everyone else?

Thanks for your excellent response. I never pay attention to some negative news like the Iraq thing. It will ruin my good mood somehow. hehe Have a nice day!

Each has its strong points. Sometimes, I even pay attention to nothing. Whereas, I know things without noticing!
