Do you think God has a sense of humor?

I don't remember a single sentence in the Bible or in any other holy book conveying the message that God has a sense of humor. However, you do get several instances of the Creator's amazing sense of humor when you observe nature. Irrespective of whether you believe that the Creator made the world or that the Creator and the Created are one, you simply have to observe nature to get an idea of what an amazing sense of humor God has. For instance, my new pup Gypsy! She is fully black. The lower parts of her legs are brown though. Also brown is a nice round part just beneath her tail. Now, when she stands with her back to us with her tail up, this looks really funny. (I know I ought to post a pic, but I really, honestly, and truly don't own a camera). Do you think the Creator made such a pattern purposely? Just for a smile? Have you also observed that the Creator has a good sense of humor? Cheers and happy mylotting

Nature's sense of humour (sorry, can't come at saying God) is best understood by looking at the platypus. This Australian mammal has a duck's bill, a beaver's tail, otters' feet, and it lays eggs like a reptile as well as having a venomous sting. It looks as though it was designed by a committee of demented zoologists. Nobody has ever asked the platypus what it feels about all this, but informed speculation (Terry Pratchett) has it that it is an unhappy and somewhat confused creature. Lash

I think the platypus came to be to frustrate scientists who won't be able to decide if it's a bird, mammal, reptile, or what. I think it's a mammal though.

Platypus - Picture of a platypus, one of the strangest animals in Australia.
Actually Australia is a very good place to see nature's sense of humour, like grandpa_lash I do not see it as anything to do with a God. In fact when first discovered there were accusations of lying when people told them about the platypus. For quite a while it was believed that someone had simple stuck some things together as a joke. To this day people still find this animal bizarre. Then there is the Tasmanian devil, which is in danger of extinction at the moment, it is an ugly little creature and makes the most horrible noises at night when hunting. Then there are also the creatures my dog thinks are giant rabbits, the kangaroo. We see them occasionally when out for a bush walk.

Tasmanian Devil - This is the way they look when being aggressive and why people think they look like devils.
Here is a picture of the Tasmanian devil being aggressive.

Tasmanian Devil looking cute - Here is a picture of the Tasmanian Devil looking almost cute. Not bad for a picture since these are nocturnal animals.
I wanted to post all the pictures together but it will not let me. Anyway. Here is a Tasmanian devil looking almost cute before it opens its mouth.

Kangaroo - A kangaroo watching the camera man to see what he is up to.
Here is a picture of those giant rabbits we have. That is what my dog thinks they are anyway. Our kangaroos are quite cute.

You only have to look at an elephant or a giraffe to see that nature has a sense of humour. There are so many strange and wonderful things in this world that you cannot help laughing at a lot of them. There are also a lot of things to puzzle about. Like who blacked the pandas eyes?

I think the closest reference in the Bible to God having a sense of humor is when he tells Abraham to name Isaac "laughter" because Sarah laughed at His promise. There are probably a lot of puns, we just do not understand Aramaic. Many of the animals make me think there was humor behind them. Platypus comes to mind, and giraffe and elephant. I believe that we are created in God's image, and we have a sense of humor, so He must, as well.

Ha ha ha ha ha , LOL just a joke he has lot of sense of humor and have many funny people in the world to make us laugh. happy my lotting.

Hi positiveminded, Of course I believe that God has a sense of humor, just think about the importance of laughter in our life. I really enjoyed Deepak Chopra's book "Why is God Laughing" and think everyone should read it. I once read that there is a letter still in existence (I believe at the Vatican) that was written by a Roman soldier during the time of Christ, and in it he refers to Jesus as one who smiles a lot. The creator and the created may indeed be one, but neither could survive without a sense of humour. Blessings.

I'm not sure if you have been very observant but reading through some great stories in the Bible portrays God's sense of humor in its deepest form. It's just that the Bible has stretched a lot of moral stories in which case it has been introduced in rather serious tone to most of us. The introduction of God as a "punisher" is mostly embedded in our consciousness that we don't see the softer side of His being. I think it's funny when the Donkey spoke to Baal; I even find it funnier for a barren woman who was Sarai gave birth during her old age... there are examples in which He demonstrates his humor. It's just that, the Bible has a different language and it is a compendium of lives in different situation but I'm sure we could dig a lot of funny stuff when we try to relate the stories there from our recent living conditions.

The laughter that the Biblical passages evoke, even if they do, is quite strained. It doesn't even match the giggles that burst out of me when I observe some of these creatures of Nature. :) Cheers and thanks for the response.

The god of the old testament did not have a sense of humour but did want a lot of worshiping with his burnt offerings as such. He seemed to have a penchant for wiping out people if they sinned. He was not very nice when he sent the Jews into the desert for 40 years to live. Atleast he gave them something to eat.

I believe man has given God the attributes of man so he can understand him. The eyes of God, the voice of God, the hand of God, the Father on and on. With these attributes I think it is only correct to assume God has a sense of humor. If he can be angry, pleased, and love, I think he could smile and find humor in that which he created man.
