Hi,
I have read quite a few discussions that I created previously. At the same time, I am marking the best response for my responder. To my surprise, most of my best response is given to mylotter who have given me very details and descriptive response. There are a lot of short response which is not so eye-catching and of course, these responses are unable and I think is not fit to be awarded the best response.
So, my question is:
Do you agree that most of the best response is for the long descriptive response? Give me you opinions.
No problem of short answer, because I will still read it although it will have less chance to win the best response.

In my opinion best response correspond to the content of the answer we are talking from the question or discussion that made. If the answer is too descriptive for me I marked it with best response. Sometimes other are long in phrases but the thought and life of the discussion are nonsense, how it can give the ideas to the readers. My concern is to help the readers to get some ideas and help them in their problem by means of our write ups. Even I will search also for the solutions of my problems here. And by the help of our community here I gained a lot.

I agree with this. Making sense is the most important thing. If somebody answers my question in a way that I can understand, then it does not matter if it took a few sentences or a few paragraphs. It just matters that they were helpful to me in a topic that matters to me. :)

i agree that its not on the length of the response but its on the thought and the essence. there are responses that are too long but no sense at all and there are also responses that is short and concise yet it states the real thought.
judgement whether to give best response or not will depend on the conviction of the one who started the discussion. this will also depend on how she/he feels about the topic.

I think it is dependent to the one who would be giving the best response if the post given to his or her discussion gets the best response or not. I mean, they are the one's who would decide if they would grant it recognition or not at all.
There was this one time that I participated on this particular discussion and I gave a full elaboration on it due to having ample interest on the matter being discussed yet, the one who posted after me just gave the gist of what I was talking about and he/she got awarded the best response. Not that I was disappointed since, it always depends on the person who initiated the discussion on how he or she would grant recognition to a post by awarding it with the best response.
After all, a best response to the one who started the discussion wouldn't necessarily mean that others who might read the discussion or those who'd actually participate in the discourse would agree that the one who got the best response deserved it.
If I do get the best response on any discussions that I participate in, I''' be glad about it. If I don't, that's okay, I wasn't aiming to get one in the first place everytime I post a response to a discussion that catches my interest every now and then (^_^ )

This is sad. I was trying to reply to your respond just now but because of the cannot "paste" reason, all the things I typed here were erased! I was just trying to move the smiley to the back of the text. Back to the point. Your point does make sense as the discussion creator is the judge who choose which respond to mark the best respond. He/She is the one who has own criterias to judge. It just a fun thing to do here. I am glad that Mylot have this feature to let all of us get chances to be an evaluator.

Best response is a response that makes the topic poster happy. Doesn't have to have facts, or even help them at all. Just has to make them happy. I have 11 best responses that are all really short, and simple. Some are just nonsense.

yes some people are know it alls, and very snotty. Everything you say is wrong, only they are right, cause they have a phd in a**hole. Its much easier to deal with someone that is patient, and respectful.

the length of the response doesn't matter to me, as long as it is direct to the point because not all long responses have sense and not all short responses don't have sense.^.^v

If the topic is about what a person's opinion is and what they would do in the same situation... then the response would perhaps be expected to be longer... same if the topic is regarding cooking, repair, or anything that requires steps or detailed instructions.
Saying: Boil the water and drop pasta in, remove from water top with sauce...
Yes that gives you the general idea... but not much... when does the person salt it... what kind of pasta... so in that situation a long answer would be just right.
But if you ask what sort of computer or camera (or anything similar) a 2 paragraph response would be stretching it a lot and not a little bit lol...
That is how i pick best response, if it makes sense and answers what i need or want to know ;)

One line answers don't usually win a best response from me, but it isn't necessarily a person who posts a long response. And it depends what you think of as long: 5 lines, 10 lines? A full paragraph? I don't like it when it is obvious someone is trying to draw out their response to make it long. Neither do I appreciate when people make their lines like this:
I went to the park and had a good time,
although a dog bit me.
I guess people think that counts as a line and do it for more money, but I'm pretty sure mylot isn't fooled. I'd say the best responses I usually mark are somewhere in the middle of long and short. Although it the answer is good, it doesn't matter how long they make it. : )

No I give a best response to every discussion and it is not the longest answer but usually the one I like the best. Sometimes it is the one that gives the best answer. I never judge a response by length.
I tend to be a person that writes long comments but that is simply my nature. I do sometimes wonder why someone got a best response when it is not the response I would give it to but it is not my discussion. Sometimes I have trouble choosing a response because I have a few that are really good and then it is a tough choice and it takes me a while to work it out. I never give them quickly. I wait at least 5 days or long before giving one.
I think that some people will not post to a discussion if the bp has already been given.

I usually reply to discussion which I have things to say. I do not care how long the discussion has been there or has the best respond already been marked as this is the very last thing I care. Perhaps nobody will read my respond anymore in the old topic but I still feel like writing out my idea of the discussion at that very moment.

I think those who really exerted effort to make their responses as descriptive as possible deserve receiving Best Response awards. Short responses are okay but at least ti should have sense. But I still favor a more descriptive response not necessarily long. Because there are long ones but still lacking in sense.
