http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2008/11/08/bottled-water-not-so-pure.aspx talks about bottled water and the misconceptions. We filter our own water at from the basement and the faucet but for people with water that is worse, I received this letter from Ed Begley, Jr today and thought that it was a good idea. We are looking into this filter. Dear Friends,Are you confused about water? So was our family. The tap water tasted awful and my wife, Rachelle, hated the fact that the chlorine in the tap water was drying her skin and hair. Our blonde hair was turning green! She also feared the negative health effects of chlorine and its byproducts. So, I did what I always do. I researched all the alternatives to find the healthiest, most environmentally friendly option. Most of the standard choices did not meet my criteria. I was shocked to find that water softeners de-mineralize water. That means the healthy Calcium and Magnesium minerals are stripped from the water and replaced by Sodium Chloride (salt) or Potassium Chloride (salt). This was not a healthy choice. In addition, softeners waste 100's of gallons of water each time they regenerate. Softeners also dump salt into the waste stream which keeps it from being recyclable. This was not an option. I then researched Reverse Osmosis (R/O systems). I found that R/O's also take out the healthy minerals and they waste 5 gallons of water for every 1 gallon that is used. What a waste of precious water! That left us with bottled water . NO WAY! 22 billion plastic bottles are dumped annually and 100,000 barrels of oil are used to produce the bottles. Only 20% of them are recycled. Plus, you can't shower in bottled water. Finally, we discovered LifeSource Water Systems. For 24 years, they have provided healthy, great tasting water to over 30,000 households. Their filtration system is based on granular activated carbon made from coconut shells. It is the most environmentally friendly water system out there. There is no need to change a filter or do anything manually to the system. What little water used in the backwash cycle goes directly into my fruit trees. The LifeSource Water system attaches to the water main coming into our home. It filters every drop of water in the kitchen, ice-maker, bathroom removing the bad taste and odor of chlorine. Now, Rachelle loves her soft skin and hair. Here's the best part. All this for only .002% per gallon! We are no longer confused about water. LifeSource solved that! You deserve healthy, eco-friendly, great tasting water without the waste of bottled water. The folks at LifeSource are extending a special incentive to "friends of Ed." They will pay your sales tax on every purchase. Don't delay because this offer ends December 31st. Call the factory at 1-800-334-5009 and tell 'em, "Ed sent me!"We love LifeSource Water and I guarantee you will love the water, too!! Be Well, Ed

I think the secret is out that bottled water isn't any better than tap water. However, even people who know this often still buy it. Why? First, because their own tap water might not taste as good to them. Then there are those of us who would rather not drink flouride. But I think the biggest reason people buy bottled water... especially those who drink it mostly away from home is, it is convenient.

I have well water and there are no chemicals in it. We just use filters. I do buy water when I am out because I do not like the taste of most tap water. My sister lives on Long Island, and that water tastes good. New York City water is good, but it does have chlorine, so I used to use a tap filter with that, too.

Well, some of my friends are really saying that even if it's bottled, it doesn't mean it is cleaner. They said that there was a study done years ago and the results showed that "tap" is cleaner than the ones that come from different bottled companies. I am not sure of this though. Anyway, I bring my own water anywhere. I got my drinking water from my apartment's faucet which has a purifier that we installed.
