How do you train your kids to know two or more languages at a young age? I am having a hard time teaching my kids chinese, tagalog and english at the same time. Its hard to talk to my toddlers when I have to say things 3 times... sometimes I wonder if they ever get confused...

Hi Silverglint, I'm not sure about this, but I think if they are exposed to a multi-lingual environment, they can pick up very fast. The grammar and other stuff can come later. We speak English with my nephews and niece since their birth. They learn some Chinese dialects from my parents, and my sister's in-laws; and my sister would start speaking some Mandarin with them. Now that my nephews are in school / kindergarten, they learn to speak Mandarin and Malay. They learn very fast - I think kids are better than adults!

You are right, kids really do learn fast. I opted to get a premium cable subscription so my kids could learn english from playhouse disney or disney channel and I did see some improvement with my boys. I try to teach them Chinese whenever I am with them, my siblings and I are also trying to work out some schedule for them to be able to spend more time with their aunts and grandparents so they would get more exposed to Chinese

my kids were born and raised here in manila, so from birth i only used english and spanish...since they are in a filipino speaking country, i figured, they'll learn tagalog eventually anyway. i even required english speaking "yayas" and i eventually taught them spanish. however, they had a vary hard time coping at school since we have several tagalog subjects. they knew nothing of tagalog whatsoever...i had to enroll them in non-filipino speaking classes that cost me a fortune....but we lived....however, when we moved to california, i used spanish and tagalog...since we were in an english speaking country, i figured they will use it all the time anyway....so they got to learn and practice tagalog then....back in manila, they are now fluent in all 3 languages. people say kids adapt and learn easilly...so i guess you start early...goodluck!
