When do you consider "sides"

Today I created a discussion and instead of regarding my fiance's family as his family like I normally do I said "on my fiance's side" so that I am considering his family mine own. I already do consider them my own family however, but I was wondering when everyone else does? When did you start considering your husband / fiance or boyfriend's family your own? Before or after marriage? Or if he's just your bf, do you consider his family yours?
I've already called his granny "granny" and I know he doesn't actually say "granny" to mean my granny but he does say "your granny" I think it's more so that we don't get the two confused. He still says "your mom" instead of "mom" like I do for his own mom, but that's probably more out of we don't know what to call them...
So another question, when did you start calling your fiances/husband/bf's mom "mom" or by her own name? I don't so much say any name to her as I just go up to her and get her attention and start speaking.
