I think the Guantanamo prison itself was a serious mistake. If we do not try people accused of terrorism within the established legal system, then our system has failed not only them--it has failed us. If the only way we can find to battle terrorism is to turn into terrorists ourselves, then they win and we lose. The integrity of our system depends on due process. In the case of Guantanamo, due process has failed--and so have we.

I think military courts would work better. The people we caught in other countries really did not commit a crime in our country so why put them on trail in our country.

If Obama requires trials for every detainee, you will see a massive increase in small terrorist attacks to flood our courts.
Bombs aren't the only weapon that works against the US. Anything we hold dear can be used as a weapon against us, including our system of justice, and freedom itself.

I know we've nothing to replace gauntanomo with, nothing to deal with each case with -- without trouble. But considering how there's MASSIVE potential for abuse of tribunals and such...plus the black hole that is gauntanomo being what it is..we'll have to find a way to deal with it somehow.
It was stupid to make the place entirely, to begin with.
The place NEEDS to be closed, and we need to figure out a better way to handle this.
No, it feels...wrong for them to be in our country, as if we alone have the right to judge them. But again, what else can we do..inthe effort to try to do the right thing by our fellow human beings? Such as they may be.

I don't think it's a good idea. The whole idea has been to keep terrorists out of our country - why do we want to bring them here now?

Is our legal system even set up for this. If we try them in our public system than a lot of secrets, spies, techniques and information we do not want the terrorist to know will be made public knowledge. DO they think the terrorist do not have CNN or the internet?
