Do you think your bf is supportive enough?

My friend's mother will be having a surgery and they are preparing her emotionally and of course the fees are still to be settled. She told her bf about the situation and he said nothing, he just changed to other topic but when she tried to open the topic again because she just wanna hear what he got to say, he resorted to become uneasy that he suggested it was not a big problem. My friend was disappointed with a response because she though he might help her out (not financially but to get a thing needed for the surgery) bec. he is a doctor but he started to be different since. The next day, the bf mentioned that she only wanted money, my friend got insulted so she called off the relationship. When I was talking to her, she said she was just asking for some support if there's any if none, she would have accepted it with a good response. Do you think, we should ask bf's help?
