It is actually better for the dog to eat just dog food and (of coarse) bones that they love to chew on. Sometimes we give them table scraps but it is kept to very small amounts stirred into their food to give it more flavor. My Aunt, who raises dogs, always gave them dry food with a spoonful of wet food and a spoonful of cottage cheese. She said that the wet food and extra vitamins that the dry food does not have and the cottage cheese makes they skin and fur better condition.

What kind of dog is your daughter getting? I would suggest looking at dogfoodanalysis.com to find a good food. I would suggest getting a good quality feed, one that does not contain by-products as their meat source and one without corn in it ( a common allergy amoung dogs). Also for training, I would suggest reading up on NILF (nothing in life for free). This is what I do with my dogs to help train them. I would also suggest crate training. This will help with potty training and a crate will become a safe den for them. Do not use the crate as a punishment; it should be a positive thing. I would also suggest going to a training class as soon as the pup has all its shots. This will teach the dog manners and will help create a bond between dog and owner. Any other question feel free to message me or as me question in this theard.
