When everything freezes

Sometimes when I am on the net, and have all the tabs open, the computer freezes. Now I know I do not have a trojan or a virus, but it seems that certain programs have a script error and not only does it freeze the page I am on, but all the other tabs so I cannot move from one to another. I then have to shut the computer off and when I open it, everything is all right.
So does anyone know what causes this? I have a Pentium $ and Use XP.

A few possibilities.
A lot of times if you have a lot of tabs opened all at once and they are all loading at the same time it can cause a freeze. Especially if theres a lot of graphjics or java or flash on the pages. Also a clogged drive with your cookies, history files, temp files, as well as cache get bogged down causing a freeze.
Clear out the tiems I listed such as history files, cahe file. cookies etc. This may help some. I really can't say wiothoput seeing the freeze as it occurs.

I always clear the cache. Cannot clear the cookies because they have my passwords on them. I think it is a bad script on one of the sites, but not sure what one. And some of those sites have lots of java and flash.

Yeah, it happens all the time if you open too many tabs, opening 8-10 tabs will cause your pc to freeze especially if they are open for 30 minutes+ time
I think opening different browsers may help but still switching from one browser to the other can also cause the pc to freeze, i've realised this situation on Firefox and Internet Explorer
I am not sure whats the exact cause but i think it is also caused by us staying online too long, but again what can we do? if you were to spend 10 hours everyday online you just have to deal with that

It does that when theres a lot of graphics or flash sites loading at once.
And it is always the ytab you've on top that freezes.
The others are froze too but you can't see nor get to them.
I try to make sure I only have 4 or 5 tabs max opened at once top avoid this issue.

when you computer freezes it mean you need some more space try deleting something you have used in a long time just to make more space on your computer. i hate this to happen but it do when you run out space to move around.just buy some more space if you want to keep what you have on your computer.

The trouble is I have enough space. I am only using a quarter of my computer for my programs, and I delete the cache, so that is not it.

That happens to me once in a blue moon, but I have no idea what causes it. I just shut it down, and start over.

My anti virus is quite good. It also checks for and warns you about trojans. It is avira and it is free. I never liked Norton. Hated to pay about $20 a year and it sure messed things up when I formatted the computer I had before this one.

You are probably running low on RAM as your programs are eating up your memory. There may be programs running in the background that you do not need. Also certain programs use more memory than others. You should try to keep your computer lean and mean. Stop the programs you do not need from starting up. Clear your cache regularly. Use a program like CCleaner to clear some of the junk on your computer. Do not open too many tabs. This might be enough to clear enough RAM but you might want to add another gig or so, RAM memory is quite cheap these days.

That is just an excuse by husbands to get you to clear out the programs they consider not necessary. I think it is one particular page.

I do not know what causes the freeze up. I have had different Compaq computers and this has always happened I am currently using Windows Vista. What tees me off is that when that happens it closes everything down. I wish I knew how to just escape from that particular screen and not everything shut down!

I have XP...a Compaq...and Internet Explorer. This happens to me occasionally too.
When it does...I follow the one posters advice...I clear cache, cookies, temp files, scan for sypware, do a virus scan, disk clean up, and defragment.
I know I read that u cant clear ur cookies cuz they contain ur passwords...my advice is to get a notebook and record ur passwords and clear ur cookies.
Your cookies arent just what u are familiar with...sometimes there are tracking cookies that get set in there. These are where other sites are storing them there.
Good luck to u...I hope u get it all worked out cuz I know its annoying.

It is really annoying when other sites causes your screen to freeze. Hope they will be considerate enough to know that we are not only interested on their sites but on other sites, too. Usually, I closes the site that makes my screen freeze.
