Finally a place to call home

As some of you know, our old house that we just moved out of on Novemeber 1st has a major mold issue. We also tried talking to the landlords in trying to fix the matter. We got nowhere with that so we decided to move.
There was not much option for houses until we came across an ad in a local town paper. Three bedroom 1 & 1/2 bathrooms and very spacious. That exact day we seen it we phoned asking if we could set up an appointment to take a look. That evening the landlord told us to come by the following Sunday. It was Thursday. We were very curious about the outside at least so we took a drive to see what we could. Finally we found the house and noticed how large it was and the location where it was. WOW that's all we could say! It was at a beach so it was a beach house. A very big beach house lol. It looked great on the outside but no windows were allowing us to peek in because of blinds or curtains hanging. We hung out for awhile and just checked out the yard and took a walk around the beach. At that time there was no snow of course.
Sunday came very slowly only because we were anxious to see what this house looked like inside. So we arrived earlier to have the tour. To my suprise, the disappointment filled the air and I was not at all liking this house. Even when we took the tour to see the rest of it. There was so much that needed work that I didn't think it could be finished in so little time.
We explained to the landlord the mold issue and what's been happening around our old house that we were renting and he told us to get out of there! He told us that we had first dibs on the new house because we seemed to be the first in need so we filled out the applications and gave him our references and left. My hubby had to talk me into moving in there and for him that's not so much easy to do with me [em]

I ended up agreeing and we called the landlord and told him that we would take it. So he decussed everything that he wanted to fix in here before we moved in. He told us that he needed to put in some heating ducts for the heating to go upstairs as there wasn't any before. Also he needed to gut out the upstairs bathroom and he could have that done in the two week period. He at first wanted us to move in right away because he was worried about our health with the old house and it's issues, but I told him that I didn't want him rushing too much to get all these things finished and if need be, he and his working crew needed to come and fix more things while we were staying there then come over and do it. It wouldn't be a huge interuption in our lives. So he agreed to that. Before we moved in, he re-did both bathrooms the kitchen and put in new heating ducts now there is ample heat upstairs. Our landlord now is really making it enjoyable to stay here.
We're really loving it here at our new home and location!
Are you a home renter or buyer? Are you happy with your landlord or not?

after renting for years all over the country. I love the home I have now. We are buying.
But thru the years we have lived in all kinds of places and all kinds of shape they were in. Some I really had to work at to get in living order other places where just a dream to live in. SO good Luck with your new land lord and home sounds great!

Thank you Lakota!
Yes this landlord is making it very enjoyable to stay in this house. Tuesday we went and paid our rent and he supplied us with new knobs for the brand new kitchen cabnets he installed but the only thing wrong is that he only gave us 16 rather than the 30 that belonged there hehehe.
He's also going to supply my hubby and I with some drywall and we're going to eventually do some renovation of our own.
P.S I never told anyone this yet but last April I went to see my psychic and she read my cards telling me that I would be here in this town a lot more by the end of this summer and our family would have a home we would call our own and fix it up! I wished you could hear the tape she recorded this on I still have it.
Thanks for your comment

awesome! sounds like a much better landlord.
i bet it'll be nice not to have that godawful mold.
i'm an owner,so any work is up to me.
i had way too many awful landlords in my rental days.

Thanks scarlet!
This landlord offered to sell this house to us as well. I just don't want to do that until he's fixed it up a little more. The upstairs needs work too because the floor slopes but it's not too bad. He told us that he's going away to see his kids at the end of december and was going to supply us with some drywall because we agreed to fix some of the rooms ourselves. I would love to respark the conversation about him selling this house to us again but not sure how to go about it?

invite him to dinner.that always sweetens the deal.
then just casually mention you'd like to buy a home eventually.

Sounds like your new landlord is working well with you so far. Let's hope he stays as amiable and reliable after you've been there a while.
We had similar issues when we bought our first home. Our old rented house was having a water issue. Really bad. It was an old house with no basement something must have broke under the house allowing (what we thought was just water) to seep up. It was coming up through the kitchen floor and steadily getting worse. By the time we moved it had started seeping up through the adjacent room.
Luckily our loan went through just in time to nab a house that we fell in love with the moment we walked in. We moved into our new place immediately after closing.
The landlord of the old place ended up tearing it down and selling the land.

Congrats on a new place to call home! I think our old landlord was in great denial about that old house. There was a basement but it got really wet during the summertime more this year than when we first moved in which was last year. I noticed that our health was getting worse as well. I even had to go into the nearest hospital to get checked out and funny thing is that the doctor told me that it was caused from exposure to mold.
We had to throw out so many things that belonged to us even our couches. They were coved with mold on the back of them. I now regret not getting house insurance and that is something I'm going to do with this new home just incase.
