Where's my raise?

At my workplace every year we get a raise of 50 cents or so. This year it hasn't happened yet but there are rumors flying around that we got a raise for over two dollars an hour. One of the rumors I heard was that our boss hasn't signed any papers for it yet so we're expecting retro checks. With this raise some rules are also being made such as we will have to stay 15 minutes longer after the shift ends and we don't get paid for lunch breaks. This year they are also doing something different for our Christmas party. We are gifted $22 and some odd change and we have the choice of either going to the christmas party and that will pay for our tickets to get into the shindig, plus we will have to pay for our guest's admission. That's quite a change from the last two years. They usualy threw us a quite nice party at a restaurant and paid for it all, plus they let you sign your guest up as well. Does your work go through changes like mine does? How do you feel about this?

That's a nice bonus to get around christmas time. I would love something like that. Our boss usually has a nice christmas party which includes a dinner, gift exchange, and dancing. We pay for our own drinks though. This year he wants to give us $22 and some change and we won't be celebrating it at the same place as usual because of the voting they had this year. Thanks for your comment

i worked for a hotel years ago that gave you a raise as they felt you deserved it (which is probably illegal).they were handing out 5 cent raises, and telling people that was "the high end".a whole bunch of people quit. gotta love "right to work" states.

I"m not understanding the whole reason why your boss would do such a thing? Sounds fishy though. Thanks for your comment

Well I guess it's the times that changes right now. The world is on economic crisis and almost all are affected by these financial crunch so every employer would think twice before giving out money. You even lucky that your employer are considering giving you raise were there are companies right now that are laying off employees because they could not just afford to pay them their salaries.

I have to admit that we deserve a raise. We do way too much for so little money. It's manditory where he has to pay us the usual raise every year and then there is that top out amount where we can't make more than. Thanks for your comment
