There is a bird barks instead of sings? The Antpitta avis canis Ridgley is a bird that looks like a stuffed duck on stilts and barks like a dog. The bird was discovered by ornithologist Robert S. Ridgley in the Andes in Ecuador in June 1998. Thirty of these long-legged, black-and-white barking birds were found. They apparently had gone undetected because they live in remote parts and, of course, don’t sing. The size of a duck, the Antpitta avis canis Ridgley is one of the largest birds discovered in the last 50 years. There are also dogs that do not bark such as the Basenji, a small dog with a silky copper coat. Instead, it yodels when it gets excited. Wild dogs like the African Wild Dog also do not bark.

That's interesting ^_^ A bird that barks, and a dog that doesn't bark?? lol =D I have not come across such animals b4.. As for the bird, they are discovered just 10 yrs ago?? That's fairly new and that they should really be protected.. hehe ^_^ After all, big birds doesn't come by often, and i think there are actually quite a number of spieces out there in the wild, just that we have not discovered them ^_^ hehe

I think so too about the many undiscovered species. Like I said, it is amazing how mother nature create her children. I wonder if there is a documentary on this bird. It would really be interesting to watch this documentary. At least to satisfy the curiosity to hear what a barking bird sound like.

So do I! I love to be able to find these little nuggets of information as well. And then sharing it here for all to learn something new as well. Amazing how much we thought we knew when in actual fact, we do not know very much at all! Heh heh... Glad that you are also learning from these little "did you knows".

Never in my wildest imagination did i ever think that a certai specie of bird barks... that is like so weird because i always believed that all birds chirp... or make this beautiful music... especially during the morning... even the rooster sometimes make beautiful sound... Well, i guess this is how God made all his creatures... to be unique... i just hope this Antpitta Avis Canis Ridgley will not be in the endangered species list...

from ants now it's birds... I have heard of this from national geographic. It's sounded weird but it's really sounded as barking bird. It's with the sound and not the way it's being produced. Bird that barks, bird that sings and bird that talks...

It is amazing what natures has created, isn't it? A bird that barks indeed! You have seen it on national geographic before? Hmm... I must have missed that episode. What is the title of the documentary you watched? I would love to be able to watch it as well. At least to satisfy my curiosity to know what the sound of a bird barking is like.
