We are so lucky that my granddaughter works in the bakery of a large chain grocery store. The store closed for Thanksgiving and that night they cleared out all the baked goods. Since my granddaughter was working that night she was given 2 loaves of five grain bread, 2 bags of bagels, a loaf of breakfast bread (it has all kinds of dried fruit in it) and a sweet potato pie. It would have cost us about $15.00 to buy all this. Usually all day old bread is donated to a food bank but there wasn't any one to pick it up. So that is one thing I am thankful for.

My daughter is also working at a bakery. Everyday she is allowed to bring some bread home. We don't actually eat that much bread so we asked her to only bring it every other day so it won't go bad. IN our case we don't usually spend much money on bread even when we have to buy it, but still it is nice.

Does your daughter work for a store bakery or a regular bakery. it is nice that they let the employees have some of the bread.

Usually the breads are sent to a food pantry but since it was the day before Thanksgiving no one was coming to pick it up. Usually she's not allowed to get bread unless she pays for it. We don't eat a lot of bread either but I do like this bread toasted. I do like my bread at least once a day.

Where my daughter works they also send some bread to the food bank and other places, but on top of that each employee is allowed to bring home a certain amount of bread. It is nice of them, and very helpful for people that use bread daily for sandwiches and stuff.

The price bread is nowadays, you must have felt lucky to get that free bread. We have the second hand bread counter but it is not the same. I gather you really enjoyed not having to buy it. And you saved fifteen dollars. Hope you enjoyed it. You are sure one lucky lady.

Yes it was nice and the saving was great too. My granddaughter working there I get to know when the bread is on sale too and she can pick it up for me. It was very nice not having to buy the bread and the opportunity to try some new ones too.

When I go shopping, I pick up the regular white bread for my husband and I will go to the day old bread section and they sell the bread there for half price. So if a loaf normally costs around $5.00 because whole grain and multi grain are more expensive, I can get it for $2.50. And since it is so filling so I eat less then I would eat of white bread, it lasts longer as well.

Free is really good. It all sounds so good. When I was a kid, my cousin worked at a donut shop. He brought boxes of donuts to my grammas house. Us kids would go over there and bring some home. At first I thought I was in Heaven, it didn't take long for the thrill of having free donuts, go away.

I love bread too. My friend does the Atkins diet, I was going to try to cut down on bread, yeh right, that didn't last long. I gotta have my bread, a sandwich is not the same without bread.

Yes I can see where it gets old fast. I like donuts but don't want them very often. I don't care much for a lot of sweet stuff. Bread is one of my downfalls. I could eat any kind any time.

This sounds like a Great deal especially the day before a Big dinner. I hope you enjoyed these, or found people who could benefit from these as well.

Always nice to get a little freebie huh?? That was wonderful now you can make sandwiches for weeks. My son used to work at arbys and every year they gave him a turkey for Thanksgiving and a ham for Christmas. I was sad when he stopped working there. lol

That would be very cool to be able to get free bread. Some bread is getting expensive.

Especially the good stuff from bakeries. If they hadn't given it the those working that night it would have gone to the garbage thou usually they send it to a food pantry.

You have a great friend. I didn't know that they got rid of the old chips. I just never thought about what they did with them. It's nice to some thing free.
