One of my close friend's who lives here recently got a new roommate. The girl came in scratching. I know that there were no bed bugs in the room before she came, because I use to hang out in this room with my friend all the time. Now they are on my friend's side of the room also and she is being bitten constantly. She has been suffering with this now for over a week.
When I first heard about it, another friend had come and woke me up to tell me. So it did not hit me at first. But when it did, I knew that I wanted to do something immediately. This place is so cheap and uncaring, that I knew that they would not do much to get rid of the bugs. All of a sudden, I thought about contacting the Health Department and I knew that if I did not, I was going to lose my temper.
This was on Tuesday and I am hoping to hear from them very. I e-mailed them, instead of calling, but I believe that I will call them on Monday. This friend of mine as a real hard time speaking up for herself and was severely abused as a child. Now she is having to deal with getting bitten constantly by bed bugs. The new roommate is so out of it, that she just lays there with the bugs crawling all over her and does not say a word about anything, ever. She just stares at the ceiling. It is really sad.
On Friday, the head of housekeeping came to the room with a cheap 99 cent spray. I had already warned my friend that this is what they were going to do and that she should not get frustrated, because real help is on the way. I do not always know how far to go for my friend's all I know is that I hate to see people suffering. God knows my heart and I know that he will not allow me to get in his way.
Although, my friend is a Christian, her faith in God is not that strong. Whenever I suggest that she trust God, she starts telling me about what others are going to do and say. That really frustrates me, because when it comes to God, I do not care what anyone else says or does. Once someone reminds me to pray, that's all I need. But it seems every I mention God to her, I have to try to convince her that he will come through for her.
This is why I do not want to try and do every thing for her, she hast to learn to trust God for herself. I can not stand to see her suffering, but I had to learn to trust him for myself, the same as she will have to.

Rozie, I have said before that you are a wise lady. It is good that you are contacting the Health Department, because the bed bugs have to be treated effectively. You might end up with it spreading throughout the facility.

This is exactly what I am afraid of. It is bad enough for my friend to be suffering, but for everyone to suffer is just too much. And the last thing anyone would want is for them to get in my room. Honey, I would call a local television station if I had to. Just watching my friend suffer, is causing me to have a phobia.

It just amazes me that the land lord would let someone lay in bugs and not do anything about it. I am glad you spoke up for your friends. We who have voices need to speak up for the ones who do not have a voice is my belief.
I hope by now the bugs are gone.

You will not believe what has happened since this post. On Tuesday 12/9/2008, the Public Health Department, came out to inspect the building. When the landlord found out he was here, he had the housekeepers rush upstairs and change the linen on both beds. I do not know how much of the room he inspected, but he claimed to not find any bugs. The lady was too intimidated by the administrator standing there to really speak up the way she wanted to.
The next day, she scooped up two bugs in a cup and took them to the office. As of this day, they still haven't done anything at all. I have another court date some time in January. I am going to have to go up there and take pictures myself and show them in court. I was even thinking of calling a news station to come over. This situation is getting to me so bad, that I am concerned about my own mental health. There is no telling how far these bugs have spread already.

OMG my friend I cannot believe what a mess you live in. What a horrible place you have to be in you are defiantly disenfranchised. I would suggest you do take the photos of the bed bugs when you go to court.
Do not only take the photos of the bugs, but if you had a video I would video the room and the bugs and if your friends will allow video tape them. I would video the room number or address for proof so they cannot say "You have not proof it is at this address." if you do not have access of video then lots of photos.

Did the Health Dept get involved in the end? I hope the place was cleaned inside and out because I'm sure it would of spread if it wasn't dealt with right away.
