Have you ever wondered what it would be like to be physically challenged?

I've met quite a few people in the period of time that I've been on this planet. From all different walks of life. Some of the most fascinating individuals I have met though are those that are physically challenged. Meaning they do not have all of their limbs that society considers to be normal.
As a child I watched a lot of television. I especially liked watching shows where someone was in a wheelchair who may have all of their limbs but could not use them. I would blindfold myself with headbands and other scarves to see if I could make it through the house without being able to see everything.
It did not feel good on my legs bumping into coffee tables or stepping on toys, etc... I have come to be very thankful for all uses of my limbs and especially thankful that every organ of my body is operating in the perfection in which it was created.
How about you, have you ever wondered what it would be like to be physically challenged?

I would start wondering abt it everytime i see some physically challenged... I would feel a prang of pity for them..
Immediately the first thought that comes to my mind is How lucky i am!!! I would deliver my silent prayers to the lord, help them if required and finally carry on wit my work!!!

Yes, I have sometimes wondered what it would be like to be psysically challenged. I have a mental illness and I have sometimes tried to compare my situation to the situation of someone who is physically challenged. I wondered what it would be like to change places and become physically challenged instead of mentally ill. Many of friends are mentally ill and they think that anything would be better than having a mental illness, but I don't agree. I was physically ill for a period of time, I was unable to walk, I was in a lot of pain etc and I can't help wondering what it would be like to be faced with those challenges for a much longer period of time. I think I would be able to learn to cope with those challenges, but if I had a choice I think I would prefer struggling with my mind instead of my body. My life hasn't been easý, but I am grateful than I am not physically challenged.

The times that I have really thought about it are the times when I am forced to be in a similar situation myself. I lost my voice once for almost a week. I have injured my back and lived with pain for a couple of years (I'm fine now) and I have broken my hand last year too. Everytime I am in a situation like that I think about how generally fortunate I am to not be in that position everyday! I feel a lot of compassion for people whose mobility or one of their senses is lacking.
My older brother is blind. I on the other hand have 20/20 vision! I often wonder about what it would have been like to switch places with him. Where would I be now? When I was young, I would bring his cane and braille writer etc. into school for show and tell. We would experiment with blind-folding ourselves to get a sense of what blindness is like. It gives you a better sense of compassion for others when you can "walk in their shoes" a bit!
