Singing in church... loudly, not at all... What do you do? What do you like?

I know of one priest who used to tell the members of his congregation: "It is said that he who sings prays twice so please go ahead and sing out loudly. And if you are one of those people does not sing well, still go ahead and sing out. Give what God gave you back to Him and maybe He will improve it."I thought then that this was a cute comment to make but as a singer sometimes found myself, I must admit, being irritated when someone was really off key... And yet I know that sometimes others might have been irritated with me for the same reason as all of us have at times been singing off key even if we have perfect pitch... It seems like there is in the singing in church an opportunity for some purification and for some enjoyment... as well as an opportunity for some high praise and prayer... What are your feelings regarding singing in church? Do you sing loudly? Do you like it when others do?
