My son Cary is going with his 2nd grade class to see The Nutcracker today. Note from the teacher said "wear your Sunday best". So we pulled out Cary's nice shirt and pants from his cousin's wedding and a nice warm sweater to wear on top. The pants went on, no protest. The shirt went on, no protest. The sweater went back onto the hanger and down came the red sweat jacket. Not worth fighting over and 2 out of 3 ain't bad. Hope he likes it. Will be interesting to see what he says!
How do you pick your battles with your kids?

How do I pick my battles with my kids?.... good question. I think it depends on how important an issue is and how stressed I am. I don't think I have established a pattern, lol.
Anyhow, your story reminded me of a time in high school where my class went to watch an evening play at a big town theater. Our teacher told us to dress really nice, guys in suits and tie, girls in nice dresses... boy were we overdressed and very uncomfortable, lol. I'm sure you son made a good decision. This is obviously a performance for kids who don't need to be dressed up to the nines. A nice, clean outfit without rips and tears is sufficient.
