What do you put in a christmas stocking?

I usually fill it with toiletry items, maybe small toys for the little ones, a bit of candy, and nuts and fruit. I know some folks don't fill them at all while others put small wrapped gifts? I was wondering what the custom is in other countries. I am also looking for new ideas to spice things up a bit.

Hi, it's fun, isn't it, filling up the stockings. This is actually one of the best part of Christmas, after the shopping is over.
I would usually put in tiny toys (bears, dogs, angels), hairclips & chains, sweets like Hershey kisses, small packs of smarties, even stationeries (erasers, sharpeners, tiny post-its) and whatever small cute things that I can find.

I love shopping for anything christmas.. I aways end up with little things I havestocked up on through the year. I guess I am more and more like my mom and grandma than I wanted t o admit... Thanks for sharing

usually just candy. sometimes small gifts like little toys.

That is what I have done for year when my kids were small, now that they are all amost growI was thinking of doing something a bit different. Thanks for sharing!

We are all adults here in my home so the stockings are filled with Candy and some other small gifts. Such as DVDs or music CD's, lottery tickets etc. Something that will fit in the stocking. Our 2 dogs also have their own stockings that are filled with dog treats and toys.

I always try to put oranges and apples in the bottom of the stocking, then maybe some candies or little debbie cakes and treats. Then I try to find some small toys for the children's stockings. Of course I have to put in some candy canes or peppermint sticks. I also put candy canes on the tree if I have too much for the stockings. I don't like having the stockings be empty. They just don't look right that way.
